newport jane, there's a current thread with this very same question. Did you even look to see if the answers you seek were here already before asking? I just topped the thread for you.

Nobody minds answering a good question, but answering the same one over and over is not much fun.

thankyou...I did not look to see if somebody had posted that very same question. I am new to this site as of 10 minutes ago and was having some trouble navigating around between "replys" and "authors". I did not mean to cause a hardship to anybody by having them answer the same question twice. I promise to be more careful in the future and not step on anybody's toes!

We honeymooned in St. John last August and we loved Paradiso!! It is fabulous food and a nice setting -- we ate there 4 times in 10 days and could have gone more! It is in a little shopping area that I cannot think of the name this moment -- maybe Mongoose Junction? Anyway, St. John is very small -- you will find it! Definitely check it out -- such creative, delicious food! Have a blast - St. John is gorgeous and the beaches are fantastic!

We just returned from St. John on 20July - and agree that Paradiso is not to be missed. Thankfully Asolare was open for our visit (we stayed at Estate Lindholm next door) and it is equal in quality (and price) to Paradiso. As indicated in the other thread, from our understanding (in talking to the bartender) - the the two restaurants have the same exec chef. We visted La Tapa twice this past trip - the food is excellent - but I would ask for a seat indoors by the a/c - it can get rather warm and sitting on the street has its charm but with the traffic (foot & car), it can be a bit noisy. If you're inclined to go the resort route - Caneel Bay's Equator is good - Turtle Bay has nice food but has more of the country club feel (and dress requirements - we cancelled reservations there to return to the Equator - we were on a meal plan last year at Caneel Bay). We haven't been there but if you're driving, we talked to people last year that loved Chateau Bordeaux.

Day time fare suggestions - Beach Bar (somewhat seedy in appearance but the sandwiches are good), Shipwreck Landing (again depending on where you're staying and if you have a car - it's in the vicinity of Coral Bay). Also in Coral Bay is Skinny Legs (again, very casual)... and although we didn't get to try it, we understand that you should try to get to Lucy's (don't mind the goats).
