St John...Just returned

Jump to last reply

My wife, two kids and myself just returned from a week on St John. Just to keep it simple--we had a wonderful time, best vacation ever!

We stayed at a very nice Villa (Splendora) not far from the Westin. We got lost a few times trying to find the Villa but after that it went well. It wasn't easy especially if you're new to the Island.

We did a boat trip out of the Westin to Virgin Gorda and Norman Island for snorkeling at the caves. We picked the Westin because we thought it would be better for the kids--only one other child was on board out of 28. We did not feel cramped at all and the crew did a nice job.

My only regret about the whole trip was the last day. We had to check out of our Villa by 10am and return the jeep at the same time. Our flight was not until 420p. At the advice of our driver on St Thomas, was to catch the 10am ferry and he would hold our luggage while we shopped around...big mistake!. We arrived at St Thomas well before 11am and that was the longest three and half hours of my life. We couldn't wait to get to the airport. Many shops were closed because of no ships in port and it being on a Sunday shopping was very limited....kids were bored and very few things to do. I would recommend finding someone on St John to hold your luggage and stay on the Island because you are already familiar with your surroundings. Just my opinion.

I wish the care taker of the Villa could have recommended advice on the last day because it was hard having young kids along and the time gap between check out and and being at the airport. But it is my fault and I should have had planned better..

Rent a jeep and bring your own snorkel gear. Buy one of the large back pack type things made for carrying snorkel equipment....makes life a little easier and bring a back pack to carry around drinks, towels, flash light (came in handy), camera, etc. We did all the above.
