St. John- Where to Dine

Just returned from the beautiful St. John. We were delighted to find that the island had some of the most wonderful food since our trip to Anguilla last year. Here is how we rated our favorites in Cruz Bay. To give you an idea, most entrees are around $25 and up at these Dinner restaurants:

Dinner-
1. Stone Terrace- hands down, the best
2. 10 Tables- Molto Mario of Food TV even
has his picture up on the wall
3.Tage- former chef of Asolare. Intimate A+
4.Zozo- Italian inspired food & wine at its
finest

Lunch:
1. Sun Dog Cafe at Mongoose Station- divine
2. Woody's- best conch fritters

Enjoy!

We just got back and loved Chateau Bordeux for dinner. Also enjoyed Aqua Bistro and Shipwreck Landing in Coral Bay. We were pleased we could eat well and still stay in the Coral Bay area.

Keep them coming you guys. I'm compiling for my first visit in June!

I have to add my favorite: Miss Lucy's in Coral Bay. The views are stunning and the food is excellent and often surprisingly inventive.

Tuxedocat, you took the words out of my mouth. I just saw my sister's photos taken at Miss Lucy's last year. Wow!!! I'd read it's "beachfront" but didn't realize just how stunning that is! The breakfasts are supposed to be great.
Iamq, the woman who's the rental agent for Honeymoon Cottage cottage (Terry) used to be a chef at Miss Lucy's.

A couple of my Coral Bay favorites for casual dining...Skinny Legs & Island Blues.

In Cruz Bay, Rhum Lines & La Tapa.

Lots of good ones already mentioned!

Can't wait to get back to STJ! Trish

I also put a vote in for La Tapa. Another good one is The Balcony. So many places its hard to hit them all! - Susan

Has anyone eaten at the Pavillion at Maho Bay Camps?

Bill -

I ate at Maho Bay Camp one night for dinner during my trip in 2003. GREAT sunset view. Although I didn't care for the food (b/c I didn't like the menu that night), others seemed to like it just fine - it's nothing fancy. It seems like you walk up to a window to order (or maybe it's a cafeteria line), and then you go find a spot on the patio to watch the sun set.

Anyone eaten at Inn at Tamarind Court in Cruz Bay? Good bar, lots of local folks; good food. Haven't eaten there myself. My sister has and loves its simple charm.
Re: Maho Bay, again, I'll have to pass along sister's opinion: great setting; inexpensive, good food--and about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the rental cottages at Francis Bay.

Bill - I have stayed at Maho a few times and yes I have eaten there. The food is pretty simple, but its normally good. Big breakfasts if you want, etc. very casual fare.

Miss Lucy's - fabulous, La Tapa -ditto, but for something simple and for people who have been to Anguilla and are familiar with Uncle Ernie's barbeque, which is the very best (and we live in Texas so we do have some experience) don't forget to check out the little barbeque place on the corner opposite the Lumber Yard, that's Ernie's nephew Joseph. Cheap, filling and great.

The Lime Inn was a favorite of ours last trip to STJ. Most of our dinners were enjoyed on the deck of our villa, however! The various deep fried items we normally stay away from while NOT on vacation were enjoyed at Woody's....shark bites, conch fritters, etc.

Larry - I love Lime Inn, one of my favorite places! :)

Ahh, dining in St.John.
We enjoyed a Sunday breakfast at the Inn at Tamarind Ct. loved their pancakes with mango salsa.
Uncle Joe's BBQ stand in Cruz Bay, great for take out, back to Gallows to watch the sunset.
Always enjoy lunch at Shipwreck Landing coming back from Salt Pond, less crowds, sandy floor and interesting drinks.
ZoZo's sea bass done to perfection.

Great list, thank you all.
We’ll be in STJ in February for a week, so we’ll need places for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks in between, of course :)
