St. John/St. Martin advice needed

Hubby and I are going to a wedding in St. Joh memorial day weekend (wedding is tuesday 6/1). we are spending Saturday-Wednsday am there (definately) we are planning on making a "week of it" and our 2 choices (due to flights/frequent flier miles etc..) are to

a) stay in st. john for the remainder of the week and fly home sunday from st. thomas

b) go to st. thomas for the rest of the week and fly home

c) fly to st. martin on liat from st. thomas (so we'd have to get a ferry from st. john to st. thomas and then the flight) on Wednsday (their are 2 direct flights - we'd probably take the evening one) and fly home direct from st. martin

only additional cost in st. martin is the flight from st. thomas to st. martin (about 115/head), hotels look like a push and the main flight will be frequent flier miles.

So my question is...is it worth the extra money and time to get to St. Martin? I'm a little worried about getting "bored" with 9 nights in st. john

Much would depend on what you like to do. If snorkeling, diving, hiking, and enjoying uncrowded unspoiled beaches, St John is ideal. If nightlife is a top priority, you may want to consider the other options.

Another option is to spend some of your time in the BVI. Tortola in particular is easy to reach by ferry from St. Thomas, and also directly from St. John I believe. It depends quite a lot on what interests you. St. Martin and St. Thomas are both built up and touristy, with lots of shopping and cruise ship passengers, but part of St. Martin has a French atmosphere, and there is less clothing on the beaches.

Just got back from St. Maarten, and liked it a lot. With a French side and a Dutch side, as well as many many nice beaches it was great. The French side is more expensive but the food is great.

would love to do tortolla (stoped there on a cruise and went to virgin gorda - beautiful) but, we are flying usair on frequent flier and we don't want to have to get back to st. thomas so we can only go somewhere they fly from, which is how we picked st. martin.

Looks like we are going to do it. We are not spending any time in st. thomas, we are headed straight to st. john (which i've been to an like alot), so we may actually look forward to a little built up after 4 nights in st. john.

thanks for all of your help...now i have to figure out where to stay!
