St. John Rental Car
 

Now I'm concerned, I read on the "do we need a four wheel drive" message that Conrad Sutton is not respected by the locals and not to rent from them. We have reserved a four wheel drive from them for March and they seemed nice enough on the phone.

Any other comments regarding this car rental company?

Don't worry, friends of ours visited us and rented from Conrad Sutton. The service is fine if a bit "snipity." Our friend laughed about the manager reminding him of his grouchy ol' aunt, the one that tells you not to put your feet on the table and don't spill anything on the plastic-covered couch before you even step in the door. He had no problems with them otherwise, and in fact, had a little fun with good-natured sassing of the manager. I don't know what the locals' interactions amount to but it's a very small island and a competitive atmosphere for local businesses so you have to take it with a grain of salt. I have never heard anything particularly negative about them otherwise.

I will be renting from Conrad again this year (4x) and have never had a problem. The people are not overly bubbly but they are fine. I would have never known of problems unless I read them in posts like this. I believe that if you are polite and not trying to push people that are on "island time" you will fare just fine.
I personally like Conrads because for the same rates others charge, they will carry insurance for you.
Cars are clean and kept pretty well. Also you can park in their lot when your in town (many town rentals offer this). This is important since parking can some times be near impossible.

Thanks for the messages. When I called and made the reservation, the woman seemed very nice. I guess it all depends on the situation.

We rented from them in Sept.05 and they were nice to us and the prices were good.

Rented from Conrad Sutton in Oct. '05. Plan to use them again this year. The woman in the office was quite nice, and the jeep was in great shape.
