St John moderately priced Accomodations for 2

Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay on St John that is moderately priced (looking to spend around $200/night in May, which I believe is off season).

It is just the 2 of us going & other than the Westin & Caneel Bay, which are way too expensive for us, all I can find is large villa homes that sleep up to 10 people.

Not too concerned with overly luxurious accommodations, but really want to be in a good location, preferably on or near a beach and would like a room w/ a balcony & a nice view. A pool would be nice too.

We're open to all inclusives, if the food is good, but would probably prefer non AI.

Thank You!

Depending availability for your dates, you can get the Westin thru Priceline. Looks at other people's results -- A couple people got it for $135 or $110 a night (plus taxes)

There is Gallows Point Resort, but it doesn't seem to have rates near $200 in May :(

Good luck.

Hi pjmay,

We stayed at John's Folly Cottages in Concordia (near Salt Pond Bay) which is on the quiet side of the island. In off season last May this was quite reasonable.

Check this and other smaller villa options out at www.stjohnlinks.com
You can contact the owner direct to determine availability.

We've also stayed at Estate Concordia Eco-tents, which was nice and had a pool as well. www.maho.org

There aren't any AI's that I know of on STJ.

Try "private homes for private vacations". These are rental homes that are just beautiful. We have stayed in them 2 times and will be going back this august. We have stayed in Tree House and Tesseract and this time will be staying in Viewtiful. You would have to rent a car, but you can save on cooking at the home if you want to. Some are less than a mile from the beach and I think that one you can walk to a small beach. Each one has a gorgeous view and everything you need is supplied. We actually bring a big cooler of food with us so that we don't have to go out for every meal if we don't want to. It is very private and very peaceful! I highly recommend these houses and the prices are VERY reasonable. The women who run the business are extremely nice and helpful, too!

Take a look at Sago Cottage on the Coral Bay side of St. John. Up a steep road on Calabash Boom but with that comes great views of the East End of St. John and most of the BVIs. It's a studio but perfect for two people. Nice porch for relaxing and reading.

You don't have to limit yourself to a villa with one bedroom, the price will be lower for just two persons. We'll be staying at La Encantada in May and it has 3 bedrooms (there's just my husband and I.)

Here's one in your price range that still has availability the last two weeks of May:

Zachsarbean1, can you tell who you go with for car rental?

We stayed in a one-bedroom unit in the Lavender Hill condos. They are clean, comfortable units right in Cruz Bay with a great view of the harbor. It was great being able to walk to the restaurants and bars. There is some early morning noise from the ferries arriving from St. Thomas, but that was the only negative. The units rent through various rental agencies, put the name in Google to find them.

Maggi-
We have gone through Cool Breeze Rental. This time we will be going through another place (I don't have the name right now, as the business we are renting through is sending the info through snail mail- hope to have it soon)
Just make sure that you pick one that will let you park your vehicle in their lot when you come into Cruz Bay...finding parking can be tough!
If I get the info soon, I will get back to you!

Hey, thanks! Any reason Cool Breeze didn't work out? Some people rent on STT and bring the car over on the ferry, but I've heard that if they break down you're out of luck. I've also read you don't really near a four wheel drive vehicle. What do you usually get?

mauimarti Jan 29th, 2005 06:36 AM

We rented from Courtesy, and our friends rented from Cool Breeze, they were both great. Both have parking in Cruz Bay, a big plus!!

You DO need a 4 wheel drive if you plan to do any exploring at all, if you're going to stay in Cruz Bay, car would be fine.

You are not insured if you take the car on the ferry from St. Thomas, It was strongly discouraged from our villa rental agency.

The main reason we don't rent a car from st.thomas is because they don't offer road side assistance, so if something happens it's all on you. Also, one of the reasons that they are so much cheaper over there is because you can just rent a little compact car, which probably wouldn't help you much on St. John. Plus, the parking could be an issue since you didn't rent from a place on St.John

Thanks zach. I just reserved with Conrad Sutton on St. John.

we have rented several times from Courtesy Car Rental , all with a good
experience. I would suggest you check
with them as well.
