St. John in July or August?

My husband and I would like to return to St. John - celebrated our 35th at Caneel in October - with another couple sometime during the summer of 08. What is the weather like in July and August? When would the least amount of vacationers with children be on the island?

You can check out past/average weather statistics for St. John on the following websites:

While July & August is "Low Season" you'll the island least crowded in September & October.

July and August are very very hot. We've been there during both months, and I guess I'd go for July if considering weather although both months are hurricane season. As for people there with children, then August is much lower in population overall with many of the residents using this time to go off island.

We went to ST John in Sept. 05 and it was a great time to go...not many people and Trunk Bay was never crowded.

We also went in June 05 and it was very busy...nearly impossible to park in Cruz Bay.

Just buy trip insurance in case of a hurricane. We had great weather..it rained one day for about 40 minutes. It normally rains late at night..a hard downpour for 10-20 minutes.

Have a great time!!:)

The week of the July 4th is carnival week in Saint John. On the 4th is a parade and fireworks. I enjoyed being there for all the fun and what a great atmosphere - but it definitely bring crowds.

I have reasearched the weather on St. John and found that it only varies about 5 degrees from winter to summer. Probably more humid in the summer though. Im going at the end of June and am looking forward to the warm water!

ksea: I've been to St. John during all four seasons, and while the temperature variations are not that much, winter months are definitely cooler. During December and January, the day time temperatures can hover around 80 with night time temps dropping to as low as 70. During summer, the temps can average closer to 88-90 during the day or higher. I don't recall any summer days lower than 88. By the way, October is a terrific time to go. Still low season and the temperatures are a bit more comfortable.

Thanks tuxedocat. I am from Virginia, and I consider the change from 80 - 90 summertime temps. Sorry if I confused the original poster!
