St. John - in December or March?

This is going to be our first trip to the US Virgin Islands and we are trying to decide when will be the best time for snorkeling, hiking, walking on the beach without crowds.
We have two options:
December 4-15
March 1-10

Which date to chose? Any opinions? Thanks

Ok..here's my .02...we went to St. Croix in March and the weather was absolutely PERFECT, outstanding actually...

One thing to consider is when is Easter next year as i try and plan my trips around when the kids won't be on spring break and since the grade school kids ususally take break during Easter, it's good to determine that in advance...your dates in March sound perfect as Easter is not typically that early...

Second, i believe December is in the middle of hurricaine season...that too is something to consider.....

I think March is the perfect time to be in the USVI....i don't travel as often as some of the folks here do so hopefully you will get some add'l feedback!

Whenever you do go, you will have a wonderful time!

Dana

The weather is pretty consistent almost year round so you have to decide when you need your break. Early December whould probably be less expensive since it is off season (Season rates usually kick on on Decmeber 15) and it is a wonderful time to do the duty-free holiday shopping. It's a good break between the hectic T'Day and seasonal holidays. BTW, hurricane season ends the last day of November so December is not in the middle of hurricane season. March is lovely too but would be more popular and busy especially with families since it is Spring Break time. A jump start on summer.

December sounds good. We were there December 7-11 and had a great weather and almost no other tourists

I'm sure December is a good time to go but after a winter like this one, March is perfect...well deserved vacation and when you come back, spring is around the corner...

just my .02...especially since i'm leaving for T&C in 9 days!! tee hee

:)

Still didn't decide for December 2003 or March 2004.
Easter next year is April 11th and I think that March 1-10 is before all spring breaks take place.
