St. John in August?
Any thoughts about visiting St. John in August?
|
Go. I went in August of this year and it was great. Small crowds and great weather.
I don't know where you live, but here in the SE it is much hotter and more humid in the summer than the Caribbean. |
My research is showing the rain activity in Aug. not much different than Dec. We were there many years ago in Dec. and there was rain. Yes, we live in VA and summers are hot and humid, without breezes, so we can clearly be happy.
OK now, any thoughts on good villas for 6 adults which are somewhat upscale, no need for a pool, with an oceanfront view and possible sounds of waves? |
Rara Avis/ Hart Bay...this is a great villa, ocean view and sounds. www.caribbeanvilla.com

It looks fabulous. It does not appear to be air conditioned. Will this matter much in Aug.?

My sense is that there's more likelihood of stinging jellyfish in the waters in the summer than at other times. No?

Hi Virginiafish,
I'm sorry I didn't get back to you on the other post about where we stayed in VG. We stayed at CaribbeanWind on Mahoe Bay. It looks like you now have your sights on St. John. My TR is at this link: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35065196 It includes pictures of the villa we stayed in, Andante by the Sea, which is on Hart Bay and would be perfect for 3 couples. We really enjoyed it, and the owners are wonderful. You can hear the ocean as well. I think August will be a great time to go, as it's low season but not "low low" season like in September when we were there-most of the restaurants were closed! They'll still be open in August. Enjoy! Oh, we saw 1 jellyfish the whole week we were there. I don’t think you’ll have any problems with them. |
Hi kellybeaches,
Enjoyed your trip report and pictures. We are open to VG as well as returning to SJ (we were there 30 years ago). I will check out your villas. Our daughter has advanced diver certification, but little experience. Any thoughts along those lines visa vi a particular island and recommendations for a dive master with whom she could go? Thanks! |
Virginiafish,
You may want to check out Belize for diving. I'll check with my friend who is an avid diver (and her husband is a dive master) and goes yearly with her diving group on trips for more recommendations. I know they were going to do either Belize or Dominica for diving this year. Your daughter should be able to contact the organization she is certified with for recommendations for people to dive with. Unfortunately I didn't get to dive on either my VG or St. John trip as we had our little one with us. |
