St. John - Buying Property

My husband and I are in our early 30s and we are considering buying property on St. John. We have visited the island three times and while we have traveled all over the Caribbean, St. John remains our favorite island. We are working with a real estate agent, but we want to speak with someone who either lives in St. John or owns property there or just knows the real estate market on that island. We are concerned that the real estate agent won't give us an unbiased opinion, and we want to hear straight up from someone the pros and cons as well as whether buying in the area we are considering (Coral Bay) is a good idea. Are any of you able to speak to these subjects and would be willing to e-mail with us about this? Also, does anyone know of a St. John or USVI specific message board where we might find someone to speak with as well? Thanks!

while there might be people on this forum who can answer your questions you might want to visit the USVI's relocation website & form for a wealth of informtion:

I can't speak for St. John-but the people we bought our house from packed up and moved to St. Thomas. The move itself was really something. They had to pack up all their furniture in huge crates and ship it all. They had a huge garage sale and sold everything they couldn't take. It seemed like such an enourmous task-but I hear they love it!!

Now might be a good time to invest in Coral Bay. I met the governor's wife on our trip in early April and she said he is trying to get park land for a road that goes directly from Coral Bay to Cruz Bay. She claims it will cut 30 minutes off the trip, which would really help emergency vehicles. If this happens, I would think land prices would definately go up.

I was hoping that Tuxedocat (a regular poster here)would chime in,since she owns a home in St John.

You might try posting on the following link. It is a very active board with a few members that live on St John.
