st. john- anywhere *new* to stay?

hi
i'm asking for a friend who lives on the east coast and wants to surprise her husband. he loved snorkeling on st. john, but they can't afford caneel and didn;t like the beach at westin.

is there any new accommodation on the island since their first visit? sorry i am unfamiliar with areas, but do understand there's not a lot in terms of big hotels...small ones? b and b?

thanks a lot.

What is her budget and when do they want to go?

They can do a 1 bedroom villa in off season (after april 15) for pretty reasonable - certainly less than Caneel or Westin.

The best place--hands down--is Gallows Point at that time of year.

www.gallowspointresort.com

It is fairly seculded and quiet...ask for villas 1 thru 3.

If you want really quiet, clean and awesome view...check out Hillcrest Villas and B&B at

also contact

If your friends stayed at the Westin, they may know Gallows Point; it's been there awhile. If they were disappointed with the beach at the Westin, I don't imagine that they'd like the beach at Gallows. Essentially, there is no beach. We've enjoyed Gallows several times because of its walking-distance to town and because there's ok snorkeling right off (the rocky) shore. And with a car, one can easily get to a number of good and beautiful snorkeling beaches. Gallows Point accommodations are not very "upscale" however; but there's good space in them.
In short, I agree that you should remind your friend of Gallows Point. Hopefully, she'll remember the place and will know whether it would suit her desires.
