Can someone suggest a beach front hotel\villa in St. John for 2 adults and a 4 yr old? I heard the options are limited...

Yes, beachfront accomodations on St. John are limited.

The best beachfront hotel on St. John is Caneel Bay where you'll have your choice of 7 different "on resort" sandy beaches. It's perfect for a family with a small child as the beaches are of soft light golden sand lapped by bright torquoise blue waters. You should know Caneel Bay is among the most expensive resorts in the Caribbean.

You can also try the Westin Hotel which has it's own "man-enhanced" beach. It's less expensive than Caneel Bay and popular with families.

Gallows Point Hotel is considered a "beachfront" hotel but there's lots of coral at the water's edge and the sandy beach area is quite small so it may not be what you are seeking.

True "beachfront" villas are very difficult to find on St. John and those few that do exist are quite pricey. Many that are described as "beachfront" are actually on hills or cliffs overlooking a rocky stretch of coastline that you reach by long stairways. If you do a google search for "beachfront villas, St. John you'll find links to multiple villas but read the descriptions and look at the photos very carefully so you are sure of what you are considering. Peter Bay, is one of the nicest "villa beaches" on St. John but the villas there are all "very high end".

Gallows Point does not allow children under 5-- and perhaps more important, I agree that it'd not be great for a child. There's an ok pool, but no real beach and no comfortable water access. Definitely not a good option.

Little Caneel Bay cottages could work, if the cost works. Gorgeous grounds, gorgeous beaches and water. Comfortable (though not terrifically spacious) rooms. Great views.

Also: perhaps try the Gibney Beach Cottage. Upscale accommodation on a terrific beach-- but well-removed from any real activities other than the gorgeous water and beach.

There are a few waterfront villas. What are your priorities? e.g. must be close to shops/restaurants, must be within a certain budget, etc.

I know you said St. John -- and I'm a big fan -- but you might also consider Secret Harbour on the East End of St. Thomas. Beachfront, great for kids.
