St George's Granada - best place to see the monkeys

Hi there,
I have read in a travel magazine about a national park where the monkeys can be seen.
Any ideas???
We will only be here for the day, so I would like to visit the park.
Thanks
Donna

That would be Grand Etang -- most of the tours go there. I've seen the monkeys there being handled by a trainer or guide, but never in the wild.

Hi Callaloo,
are the monkeys found else where or would this be the place?
What else is there to see and do at Grand Etang?
Is it worth a visit?
What will the weather be like in early Jan?
Thanks for the quick reply
Donna

You can hike in Grand Etang, see the waterfalls, and hopefully encounter some wild monkeys. The ones that most of the tours see are the monkeys that come up to the side of the road for banana handouts from the tour guides as they know when a tour bus comes they will get a freebie meal.

The weather in January should be beautiful, it is considered their dry season. If it does rain, usually it is just a passing shower.

We did this hike and saw monkeys near the parking lot but not in the jungle. Just the same, the hike was beautiful--you need proper shoes as it can be slippery. Even the ride to the park was wonderful through winding steep roads. Our trip included transport.

Thanks for our tips.
We are coming from Australia and need to make the most of it. We are interested in seeing the scenery and wildlife.
Thanks again
Donna
