St. Croix restaurant recommendations

We're going to St. Croix in two weeks. Any recommendations on dining? Also, any reviews of Hotel on the Cay?

Thank you.

In Christiansted try Indies, Bombey Club and the restaurant at the Hotel Caravelle. All were excellent!

Here's one you probably won't see in the guide books...Kim's

It's locally owned and operated, right in C'Sted. Very small, wonderful caribbean food. I still remember the shrimp creole I had there in 1998.

Thought it was hotel in the Quay, but could be wrong.

Anyway, I didn't stay there but they made on of the best daquiri's I've ever had.

For a nice dinner, try Villa Madeline. (You'll need a car as it is severl miles from Christiansted.)

In Christiansted, Tutu Bene's is absolutely wonderful. Second the vote for Bombay Club, also very good. Luncheria has very good cheap Mexican dining al fresco. A beer and huge enchilada was under $10, with great hot chips. If you want to walk about 1/2 mile to Gallows Bay, Golden Rail is good for breakfast, and Morning Glory has fantastic fresh beignets.

Rumrunners at the Caravelle is okay, not great. Well, at least the meal we had there in October was only okay, but my traveling partners had eaten there before and said it must have been an off night. Marina Bar just down the dock from the Caravelle (and directly across from the Hotel on Cay) is good for breakfast, and highly recommend Shenanigans for cheap breakfast or lunch. Kims always gets high marks, but I haven't eaten there. In Fredericksted, the Blue Moon has a very nice Sunday jazz brunch.

As for Hotel on the Cay, haven't seen the inside, but from several reports, and my views of the outside, it has seen better days. Great location right across the harbor from C'sted, and an okay beach--the only one in C'sted proper--but it's quite run down. Sorry to tell you...

Don't miss the Sunday brunch at the Carambola.

Check out http://www.stcroixscuba.com/restaurants.htm

Ed Buckley of St. Croix Ultimate Bluewater Adventures (SCUBA) wrote the reviews and they are very accurate in my view. If you have a car check out Boz's Cane Bay Beach Bar and Off The Wall (both at Cane Bay) for excellent beach food. Boz's also has a superb Sunday brunch. And for local food try Nolan's Tavern just east of Christiansted - excellent. I agree that Bombay may be the best buy on the island, with a wide range (both in taste and price) of excellent food. Also agree that Kendrick's, Indies
and Kim's are great. Try Harvey's for local food if it's open too. And I hear that Savant is fabulous.

Don't worry too much about Hotel on the Cay. It's somewhat run down, but it's got a great location and how much time are you going to spend in the room anyway.
Do try the Commanche Restaurant in Christiansted. Try the curry, the creamed spinach, and the cornbread!

I haven't seen the inside of the Hotel on the Cay, although I have spent a lot of time on their beach. They went out of business for a while, but started selling timeshares and are turning around a bit. I wouldn't worry - the location is so beautiful that you won't be in your room much. The restaurant at the Hotel on the Cay is pretty good and is in a great location!

If you have a car, you might drive out to to Buccaneer for lunch (they are very expensive for dinner).

Have a great time, I'm jealous!

Kelly
