St. Croix Buccaneer- Just Back

I just returned from the buccaneer today and just wanted everyone to know how beautiful the resort and the island of st. croix is. I had been to st. croix 4 years ago and had heard such bad hype about how bad the crime had become i just had to see for myself. st. croix is a great island, easy to drive around, very low keyed, good restaurants and as safe as most islands. Just dont go hanging around bars at midnight. I felt safer in st. croix than in st. thomas, and forget jamaica or dr.

We are heading to the Buccaneer in November with our two kids (2 and 4). Did you go with kids? Which type of room did you stay in? How was the food? Crowded or not? Any suggestions on things to do, restaurants, etc.? Thanks!!

Hi marie, stayed in the beachside doubloons, only way to go, they are fairly new and gorgeous with bathrooms to die for. they are on mermaid beach and next to the beach restaurant where they served breakfast and lunch. the oceanside rooms looked nice but older as where all the other rooms. it is an older resort but beautiful. rent a car and see the island, the roads are great just get used to driving on the left and go to the restaurants in christiansted, i really liked tutu bene on company street in town. the main restaurant at the buccaneer (terrace) has really good food but very expensive and spectacular views. hurricane isabel was 350 miles north of us during the week and if it wasnt for the weathermen from new york and the hurricane hunters, we would have had the whole resort to ourselves. our last day, there were only 3 other people on the beach. it was a quiet week but im sure its not always like that. things to do, go to christiansted, go to point udall, the divi carina casino, golf at carambola, drive the north shore, enjoy the beach at the buccaneer and relax. by the way, have a strawberry daquiri for me.

But bobrxlex omitted the BEST thing to do while on St. Croix: take a daysail to Buck Island! Great snorkeling.

I think since it will be our first trip to St. Croix and after reading your trip report, and other posts, We will probably book Buccaneer. Altough we prefer to rent a villa as we did on St. John, we are just not sure of which aarea in St. Croix to go to for a villa.

We really do not want to stay at a family type resort. We are looking for just plain relaxation and not an overcrowded beach.

Can we get that at the Buccanner? Any other advice of which rooms etc. would be most helpful.

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks.
