St Barts/One Day

We have been to the Caribbean many, many times on cruises but this is the very first time we have found a cruise that goes to St. Barts. We love to snorkel and dive but since we have never been (and wonder if we will return) would you recommend staying on land or should we do the catamaran snorkel cruise that we had planned? Snorkeling can be so hit or miss in the Caribbean. Is St Barts a place we MUST snorkel? If we choose to spend the day on land any recommendations for must do's in one day?
Thanks!

I was on St. Bart's for a day (we took a small commercial boat over while we were staying on another island). I love St. Bart's!! We took a tour around the island (which I highly recommend), and later we walked around the port town. I wish we had had more time to explore. It is on my to return to someday list!

For us St. Bart's snorkeling was a miss.

We visitied St. Bart's twice on a sailboat and both times rented a car and drove around the island. It's small and quite easy to navigate.

Gustavia---shopping, Le Select (Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger in paradise) dinner at The Wall House
Anse de Goveneur beach---very nice
St. Jean beach---watching the planes come in, lunch or a drink at Eden Rock.
St. Jean town---small, quaint shops
Top of the hill---get out of your car and you will think you can touch the planes as they come over the hill.
Many other beaches to stop at, all with a slightly different look.
Attractive small hotel properties to stop & have alook.

All in all, it is one of the prettiest islands we have driven around and would do it again if we were in the area. It's very French and very expensive and very memorable.

After visiting 20+ islands it remains one of our favorite.
I'd say get a car and go for it!

My advice is to skip the snorkeling trip and explore the island. Snorkeling is not at all exciting on St. Barth, but the beaches, restaurants, and shopping all are. Definitely rent a car (in advance), its easy to get around.

Another vote for island tour, no snorkeling there really to speak of,

Tiny hilly dramatic island to explore with expensive amazing shopping (like shopping a mini Champs in Paris)
