St Barts
 

Just a gently nudge to remind everyone that St Barts is in the Caribbean.

Doesn't seem to get much attention on this forum.

I agree. I think St. Barts is fabulous. Unfortunately it has the reputation of being over the top expensive - so possibly that is why it gets so little attention here. But it doesn't have to be expensive (relative to most other islands) - go in the off season and rent a villa where you can cook some meals. The restaurants are fabulous (but expensive) - so go out to lunch instead of dinner.

It is a stunningly beautiful island - and probably my favorite.

St. Barth's gets occasional recommendations on this board but as cm318 pointed out it is generally considered an expensive island and the majority of inquiries on this forum are from people with more modest budgets.

Also, it is a bit difficult to get to St. Barth's which is another limiting factor. Many people don't like the idea of flying on small planes or are concerned the ferry ride on the infamous "vomit comet" will be more than they can handle.

We also love St. Bart's and have been there 3 times on sail boats(Windsurf, Windspirit, and Star Flyer).

We rented a minimoke the first and second times for the day. The third time, a Smart Car. What is the car of choice on St. Bart's these days?

The island is beautiful and very easy to navigate. If you're lucky, your ship will be in port until 10PM and you can have dinner.

Otherwise we had lunch at "Le Select",(cheeseburgers in paradise according to Jimmy Buffet)--very reasonable. Our lunch the next time was at Eden Rock on the beach. A not so reasonable $75 club sandwich--aah,but the setting!

The beaches were stunning as was the shopping.

Sometimes it's worth it to soar a day with the eagles, instead of spend a lifetime with the pigeons.

If you get the chance, go.

We have just received a batch of convertable Beemers and Porsche SUVs.

That said, it can be done on a budget.

The Normandy Hotel has rooms at $90 a night and you can find a burger for $3.
