Eleuthera body surfing or boogie boarding

Hi Everybody-

Eleuthera looks great and am looking into planning a trip there this June.... We love to snorkel and look for shells and this looks perfect for this.....BUT we also love to body surf and I know they have a "surfers beach" there but wanted to find out if its a sandy bottom or on a coral reef...I do not want to body surf on anything I can crash on.... Does anybody know this question? Also I know in June the waves are smaller but does any one know how small? is it still 3-5foot or are we talking 1-2 footers (not worth it). Are there any other beaches on eleuthera that would be better for body surfing? please list....

I'm also looking at Barbados and Tortola as options too...
Eleuthera just looks so wonderful....

Thanks for your response-

Julie

Julie, my husband is a surfer, and the first time we went to Eleuthera, we hauled the surfboard along. It was not used. It was summertime, and we went to Surfer's Beach...but nothing was happening that day. We have not seen waves bigger than 1-3 foot - the same goes for Tortola. We've decided that if there ever are big enough waves to surf, we'll just rent one from somebody. We've visited Eleuthera three times, also Harbour Island another time, but alas no surfing to speak of. We did swim at Surfer's Beach and the bottom was pretty clear, but most of eleuthera does has some coral, with patches of clear sand throughout.

That said, I'm sure some storms blow through causing some great surf, it's just that your timing has to be perfect...we'll keep on trying

PS: There is a book called Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera, excellent. We found a copy in our rental cottage, but perhaps you can find it on Amazon. Tells what each beach is known for, and how to get there. We planned our days using that book!

PPS: If you really want to plan a foolproof vacation around surfing, you Must go to Hawaii. There we rented a board and my husband was one very happy Dude, surf was available at all skill levels!
