Splitting time btw St. Martin/Anguilla?
 

My fiance and I have been trying to decide where to go on our 6 night honeymoon next June. We think we've (finally!) decided on St. Martin/Anguilla. Right now the plan is to fly into St. Martin from Puerto Vallarta, where we're getting married, and staying at Le Petit Hotel for 2/3 nights and then Cap Juluca for 4/3 nights. We're in our mid-twenties and pretty laid-back. We like good restaurants, hiking, pretty beaches, and cute towns. Any suggestions/recommendations? Also, anybody who's been to Cap able to recommend their room preferences? Thanks so much!

Anguilla has about 80 restaurants and some are fabulous; others merely great. Also 35 beaches, many of which are long so they make for good exercise. It's a flat island so whatever hiking in the hills you want to do, you need to get out of your system in St. Martin. No "cute" town but the beaches and restaurants should occupy your time -- there's a description of each of the beaches (with photos) at www.anguillaguide.com -- spectacular!

You will love Cap -- what a beach! Also, a night at Sandy Ground for live music at the beach bars is a must-do.

Grand case in St. Maarten where you are staying at Le Petit qualifies as a cute town.
while you are in SXM, if you like hiking, be sure to go to Loterie Farm..hike around and use the zip lines.

and while you are in grand case, you can eat to your delight. Grand Case is lined with gourmet restaurants..all are wonderful, not cheap, but excellent.
you can also eat at the lo los, little local outdoor places by the pier..great local grilled food at reasonable prices.
while in St. Maarten rent a car and go to one of the other beaches close by. I recommend Bay Rouge and Friar's Bay and Orient.
and then on to Anguilla. You will love Cap. The beach is beautiful.
Try to get to Shoals Bay also.. what a gorgeous beach.
see if Bankie Banx Dune Preserve is open. It's a little beach bar close to Cap and sometimes they have great music there.

Great choices and congrats! A suggestion while in Anguilla. I highly recommend Picante to eat at one night. It's a great mexican restaurant that has out of this world food and very strong margarita's. It's owned by a lovely couple. We usually end up there several times during our stay.

As far as room choices go at Cap Juluca, that's really personal preference. I typically reserve the Luxury room, although my husband would book the Jr. suite if he were doing the booking. All the rooms are right on the beach, so you may want to look at their web page with floor plans to decide what size room you would like most.

We stayed in the Luxury villas and the rooms were beautiful. I think we were either in building 8 or 9. We had a ground floor room which had easy access to the beach and also had privacy on the patio plus a beautiful view of the caribbean. You are served breakfast on your patio and it is just wonderful! You probably can't make a bad room choice.

Thanks, everyone, for the helpful suggestions! I think we'll probably split our time evenly, with three nights on St. Martin and three on Anguilla. ALR and lvs, I'm really big into nice bathrooms- can you tell me what the ones at Cap are like? Do they have big bathtubs? Finally, I think we'll rent a car for at least the St. Martin part of the trip; should we do one for Anguilla as well? Thanks!

Absolutely get a car in Anguilla!!! It's a small island but taxis are expensive and there are 80+ restaurants and 33+ beaches to explore. Definitely a car (your resort will arrange it for you).

Cap's bathrooms are large and great. If bathrooms really float your boat, get the junior suite instead of the luxury room.

Is the junior suite bathroom better because it has that outdoor shower?

Also, what side of the road do they drive on in St. Martin and Anguilla?

in St. Martin we drive on the right hand side but in Anguilla they drive on the left. It's easy to drive in Anguilla though.There is not much traffic and the roads are good.

Cap Juluca's bathrooms are large in both the Luxury and Jr. Suites. The luxury typically have a single tub (tho still large!) and the Jr. Suites have double tubs. They both have the outdoor solarium for sunbathing. It's the Superior rooms that have the smaller bathrooms, so if that's important to you, stay away from those.
