South Caribbean In August...too many storms or weather ok??

2 30 something couples, professionals, living in Columbus Ohio. Thinking about going on South Caribbean cruise(Serenade of Seas, RC) next month, August 14-21. Hear this may be storm season? ANyone have insight? We have vacation time in August and have had south caribbean on our list. Does this sound like a weather disaster or a good plan? otherwise, where should we go at this time with beaches and hot.....

weather2travel.com Carib Climate Guide

LOTS of rain many areas in August.

Personally go in winter or spring best

If you hazard it get insuremytrip.com

Folks got dinged on a Hurricane in August

down there 2 years ago lots of rain flight cancellations

albeit rarely.ABC "Blue Sky Isles" are out of the storm belt

safer to head there for me rather than risk a cruise.

Still if it is the only time you have odds are u will be ok.

Happy Travels,

might also consider Hapuna Prince Big Island priceline.com

did that in Aug weather was great $1k pp for a week with

air and car had a blast www.stayhawaii.com

weather will be a tonne better around Kona

there are cruises out there to I have done but

seemed rainier when I went long ago lots of variability

Kona always has the driest conditions best snorkel

volcanoes for me...

Happy deciding,

I think you're taking a chance on the weather. We used to go to Jamaica at that time of year and don't anymore because the weather is just too iffy. Can be beautiful or can be extremely humid, rainy, and buggy. If you have to go at that time, take the advice of the poster above, and think about the ABC islands, which typically have better weather. And definitely look into travel insurance!

The further south you go in the Caribbean, the less likely you are to run into a major hurricane. And ships can sail around storms, though an August hurricane might wreak havoc on your itinerary. If you need to travel then, I think a southern Caribbean cruise or a trip to Aruba or Curacao are your best bets.

You can look up the weather history for where you're cruising but absolutely no one can accurately predict the weather.

What is the cruise line policy for refunds if there is a storm? Most ships will cruise to different ports, if possible.

I'd take out a travel insurance policy but make sure it covers you for hurricanes. More than likely you will go and have smooth sailing.
