Sosua Beaches?

Has someone been to the beaches near Sosua in the Dominican Republic? I've heard differing opinions about this area.

Thin, rather grubby little beaches.
Further out, good windsurfing. Tho chock-a-block full of resorts, beaches on Punta Cana side are considerably better, if subject to cold winds in Dec-Jan and seaweed.

Thanks. We've only been to Puerto Plata and that's been in July and August so we were wondering about the difference if we go in February. Are there a lot of vendors on the beach disturbing those of us who just want to chill out????

There seemed to be a continual
art-etc-for sale on 2 of the main beaches. Less coral cliffs than
Plata but sewage also a problem.
The DR, except for some luxe new
places on the South Coast, is not
high on the to-go list for many. It is cheap. You get what you pay for, however.

The beaches weren't great and tons of vendors with row upon row of huts selling everything. Very grabby and insistent. We stayed 5 minutes and got the hell off that beach. I don't mind vendors saying come in, come in but when they put their arm around you and start pulling you towards their shop, I draw the line. Hated it...worth paying the price at the hotel gift shop...at least you don't have to put up with that kind of thing.
