So confused on San Juan Hotels - Please Help!!!

I need help! My fiance and I need a place to stay in San Juan for one night in August on the way back from our honeymoon in the Virgin Islands. We are 23 and are looking for something close to the airport since our flight out will be very early in the morning. Main requirement is something safe and clean, and around $100! Is that possible? Not sure what we are going to do there for the day, but it would be nice to be able to walk to a beach, shops, casino, etc. Right now I am looking at the El Canario at the Lagoon - cheap, good reviews on tripadvisor.com. Do you think the location would be okay for us? Or is there another place you'd recommend? THANKS SO MUCH!

there is a recent post about this topic if you scroll down a bit. i personally booked the best western for $109. according to folks on this site, its not the closest to the airport, but it is still just a short taxi ride away. not sure how well it is situated for your other requirements as we are just using it for a layover.

Look into the ESJ towers. I think you should get something for that price.

The Isla Verde and Condado beach areas both have plenty of smaller, cheaper hotels where you should be able to find rooms around $100 in August (off season). Isla Verde is closer to the airport, but Condado is not that much farther. In both areas you'll be able to walk to the beach, shops, and restaurants, though Condado is generally a more pleasant area for walking. The Canario Inns are reliable and usually get good reviews. There are three of them, but Canario on the Lagoon has, in my opinion the less convenient location of the three. The original Canario on Ashford Avenue or Canario by the Sea, close to the Marriott, are more centrally located. In addition to the hotels mentioned in the other thread referenced above, other small hotels that should be in you range include El Consulado, El Prado Inn, El Patio Guesthouse, At Wind Chimes Inn. Some are more basic than others, but all are decent and safe.

Canario By The Sea is less than 100 feet from the beach. It is a $12 cab ride from the airport - a 10 minute or so ride.
