Snorkelling St John

I am visiting St John in November, and would like to purchase new snorkelling equiptment. I would like some advice as to whether or not to make this purchase before I visit, or make the purchase on either STT or STJ. If so, any suggestions on the retailers on the island would be appreciated.

Depends on how serious a snorkler you are! If there is a Sports Authority or other specialized Sporting Goods store near you, go and see what options are available. If you are just looking for a basic set of fins, mask and snorkle you may do fine stateside, at a lesser cost than if you wait to get the same equipment on the islands. We bought some good recreational equipment in 1995 and have shuffled equipment among our family of four, with some replacements for reasons of comfort, fit, and wear, but it has served us well.

It's much more expensive to buy the equipment in STT or STJ. You are better to buy them at home and bring them with you. Snorkeling at the Trunk Bay at STJ was wonderful. I saw turtles, colorful fish and different kind of corals. Enjoy your trip.

I purchased my mask and snorkle in Atlanta BEFORE my trip to the USVI.... ans was so glad that I did! I am not an expert but wanted to make sure that I got a mask that fit properly. Once we got there our hotel provided fins. <BR>
