Snorkelling honeymoon in Dec/Jan - where should we go??

I'm trying to decide where to go for my honeymoon which will be over new year, so weather is risky, and I really want somewhere HOT where I can swim and most importantly have really great snorkelling right off the beach. I don't want to have to take a boat to go snorkelling.
Am I looking in the right part of the world? If so, where would be the best place for tranquility & romance, yet not too many honeymooners, kids or tourists, great sandy beaches, really nice accommodation but not at over-the-top prices, plus other things to do - ie a lively safe town, nature etc.
Any help much appreciated!
Jo

Thanks Owa, it sounds like a great trip, but I don't want a 'snorkelling trip', I want to be able to snorkel right off the beach all day every day if I wanted!

Hi jo, St. John seems like a natural fit for you. It's high season there starting Dec 15. Weather should be in the 80's, water warm enough for snorkling. Plenty of fantastic snorkling right off the beach.

St. John is a very laid back, non-commercial island so there's lots of nature to enjoy. Cruz Bay is lively enough with good restaurants, a little shopping and a little nightlife when you want it.

It's not inexpensive, but it's beautiful. Worth investigating.

The only place a little warmer that time of year would be the South Pacific where it is summer. However the central and southern Caribbean is fine. For wade-in snorkeling and a honeymooners' paradise on earth, look no further than Caneel Bay Resort on St. John in the USVI. Only 171 rooms scattered around 170 acres and SEVEN tree-shaded white sand beaches with wade-in snorkeling. Situated in the National Park, with no development to be seen anywhere. Pricey, but nothing like it for what you want. Pull up their little video on their website,
www.caneelbay.com The video does not do the place justice, but you will get a feel.
