Snorkeling on Antigua? Seeing mixed reports

We're planning a first Caribbean trip in Feb to Antigua. How is the snorkeling there? Are there good spots accessible from the beach?

Depends on where you go - Off some beaches on Antigua the snorkeling is just "average" or "below average" at best while other beaches don't have any snorkeling. The best snorkeling areas are accessible only by boat.

I've had some decent shore snorkeling on Antigua but the best was from a boat. The more you've snorkeled, the less you'll find to love from the shore in Antigua, but if you're relatively new to snorkeling, I think there's enough to hold your interest.

Following page has a list of snorkeling beaches and companies that offer boat trips for snorkeling:

Thanks everyone. Travel was more complicated there and it is our first trip to the caribbean. So we wimped out for a direct flight to Jamaica.
