snorkeling - cayman or st. croix?

Which of these islands would be best for a beginning snorkeler?

I'm mostly interested in great reefs and beaches. Don't care much about nightlife or shopping.

We would be staying near 7-mile beach on Grand Cayman or near Christiansted on St Croix.

Would bugs (no-see-ums and mosquitos) be worse on one island than the other? (This will be in November.)

Thanx

Haven't been to St Croix, but Grand Cayman so far tops my list of caribbean snorkel spots. Actually in my opinion Seven Mile Beach is the worst snorkeling on the island, over crowded, lots of dead coral. if you go to Cayman, best snorkeling spots are out of town, especially the north side. And I was a beginner when i first went there.
