Snorkeling Anguilla

Hello all,

My wife & I will be in Anguilla 2/24 thru 3/3. We are staying in Meads Bay at Turtle Nest Resort.

From what I've read so far, Anguilla is (NOT) a premier snorkeling desination, which is fine. We will have access to a car, and are more than willing to explore a bit. Can someone please suggest our best bets for any snorkeling on this island?

Thank you in advance.

The best off-beach snorkeling reef (albeit small - you'll see everything there is to see in about 30 minutes) on Anguilla is at Shoal Bay East. It's about a 15 minute drive from Meads Bay. There's some decent snorkeling at Little Bay but you'll need a boat to reach that beach unless you are willing to climb down/up a 30' rope ladder since the beach is located at the bottom of a steep cliff. You can snorkel off of Silly Cay but all you'll really see is some turtle grass and very tiny fish. For some very good snorkeling consider taking a day trip to Prickley Pear Island. Several companine offer trips which include lunch. That's really about it.

I already knew it was extremely limited, but thank you very much, this will help. We do plan on doing a charter for sure.

Anguilla and St. Martin are not know for snorkeling. They are like Antigue.

But do it once. A tour boat with 6-8 other guests might take you to a few off-shore places that are slightly better.

There's an easier way to get to Little Bay or snorkelling. Drive to Crocus Bay and Calvin will take you around in his small boat. He charges about $12 per person and will come back for you in whatever amount of time you request. It's a great little spot.

Check out Sailing on Chocolat's Catamaran with Rollins. It's a great day on the water & he makes lots of stops to snorkle. http://news.ai/ref/chocolat.html

I second the recommendation for a day sail on Chocolat. We really enjoyed our day with Captain Rollins.

We stayed at Shoal Bay Villas on Shoal Bay East and saw lots of fish in the reef right offshore from the hotel.

Enjoy! The beaches are gorgeous on Anguilla, I can't wait to return.
