snorkeling-- help!!

Hi! just wondering if anyone can recommend a resort with a coral reef right off the beach for snorkeling? We will be traveling with 2 kids ages 14 and 10 and are looking to avoid an excursion. Thanks

Do you have your eye on any particular island in the Caribbean? Maybe that could help narrow it down.

While it is not on an island I stongly recommend the Hotel Akumal Caribe. www.hotelakumalcaribe.com The is about 50 miles south of the Cancun airport on the Yacatan penisula in Mexico across from Cozumel. You have a completely sheltered inner lagoon with no surf. This is an ideal place for young people to snorkel. The hotel has a variety of accomodations that will fit most budgets. There is also some outstanding Maya ruins nearby. Driving is easy and safe in this area if one rents a car at the Cancun airport for transportation. Be certain to take long sleeve T shirts and even light weight pants to cover legs if they snorkel any amount of time. Otherwise they will be a sorry sun burn mess. Also take stuff with about 18% or more deet to ward of mosquitoes in the evening.

Suggest Hotel InterContinental Presidente on Cozumel.

Best snorkeling on the island right off the beach in front of the hotel, and the nicest place to stay on Cozumel.

Cozumel is well-known for having some of the best diving and snorkeling in the world.

I second Diana's suggestion of the Intercontinental. Great snorkeling - one of my favorite hotels. Check out their prices - I got a brochure in the mail last week that all Intercontinentals were 50% off!!
