Hi pattye -
There are some very steep hills and they feature switchbacks to get up and down. Technically, these are hairpins but you'll be at approx 5 - 10 mph at those so no real danger there.

The signage is fine with loads of new signs added in the last few years.

For the most part, you'll likely never get up beyond 30-40 mph anywhere.

I really don't consider the roads on the hills threatening. Honk your horn on the switchbacks and at blind corners. Keep the speed down and watch out for the crazy locals (some drive too fast).

Thank you so much. I think we are going to rent a vehicle now for sure. It just seems like a much cheaper way to see the island in a day. The shore tours that the ship offers are about 30 or 40 dollars per person and they are only about 2 or 3 hours long.
