Small beachfront resort in playa del carmen
Would like to stay at small beachfront resort in Carmen del play in September....with intimate atmosphere....no highrise, good beach and meals included. Has anyone ever heard of Las Palapas? If so what did you think of it?
Many thanks for information.

hey bob,
we were last in playa in the early 80's. we have heard it is way built up. soooo we tried maroma up the road a bit. we flew into cancun, they picked us up and it was a 30 min drive. maroma is a small hotel, with wonderful service. very quite, no young children. i would say its chi-chi without the attitude. try it, you will love it

service is excellent at Maroma but food not wonderful. about a 30 minute easy drive into Playa for good eating. Be careful of room location. Overpriced even for chi-chi.

You should re-post this on the Latin American Forum...you'll find loads of Playa del Carmen information there.

Shangri-La Caribe has the same overall "feel" as Las Palapas but a much nicer beach -- the resort has a long stretch of beach to itself while Las Palapas is right next to the public beach and it's stretch is very small. And I did not see any rooms on the beach like they have at Shangri-La Caribe. We considered both and I was glad I chose Shangri-la Caribe.
