I've traveled through the Caribbean and Bahamian Islands but never solo. Any suggestions on one of the easiest islands to get around on your own?

I travel alone frequently. My DH just doesn't see the appeal of island living. At any rate, for me the easiest one to be alone on is Bermuda; but, I have felt pretty much at ease on all that I have visited.
Have a great trip whereever you choose to go! |
I've been travelling alone to the Caribbean for several years now. Started in the BVIs and continue to go there. I love Tortola and found it very easy to get around - Anegada is even easier (just harder to get to.)

You might really like Anguilla. It's easy to get around. There is tons of information you can read up on on: Anguillaguide.com. The island also has wonderful people, so as a solo person, it would be very eary to get to know other people.

I generally seek safer islands and areas with areas that don't require driving when I travel out of the country alone. I have been to the following islands solo: St. Lucia (Rodney Bay), Barbados (South Coast), and Turks & Caicos (Providenciales - Grace Bay Beach) in the last few years and have had a good experience on each. I noted specific areas parenthetically for each country to give you an idea of areas where I stayed that don't require driving. I did rent a car for one day on my trip last week to Provo, and driving on the left there wasn't too bad. The Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman is another option that I am considering for a future trip.

I second Bermuda. Very pretty island and I have always felt safe. Public transportation is easy, cheap, and safe.
I would stay in a smaller hotel. My favorite is The Reefs. |
I'm a woman in my mid-30s and I spent a week solo on Grenada last May and just loved it. I stayed in a local neighborhood by a beach and could walkto & from the beach and restaurants during the day. I also rented a car to explore more of the island on my own and also to get back & forth to the market for food and see other beaches. Never once felt uncomfortable.
