Silly Question
Okay,
I've been enjoying this forum for s few years now. Every now and then, I won't know what an abreviation or initials mean, but can usually figure it out. Well, I keep seeing several folks referring to their husbands as "DH". What does the "D" stand for? Dumb? Drunk? Dull? Drippy? Darling? Please help starighten out this confused sole.... |
Maybe all the things that you listed too, but generally speaking D stands for Dear. DH -- dear husband, DD -- dear daughter, DS -- dear son.
|
I've wondered about this, too, and I think the "Dear" is odd. Why not just "H"? I suppose it is nice to refer to our husbands as "Dear," but people don't generally refer to their husband as my "dear husband" in normal conversation.
|
Whether or not it strikes you as " odd " it is used a lot here on Fodors and other sites .... A whole new computer language starting perhaps !!
|
I totally agree that it is widely used on Fodor's and the internet. I just find it "odd" because it is not something we would hear in our everyday speaking language, as opposed to computer language. I guess there is another language emerging!
|
Becca,
I agree with you. And I think there is something gender related to the use of DH, and all the other "dears". Most men who post here, refer to "my wife" or "my son/daughter". Although I prefer all the "dears", rather than "my Hubby". Marion |
Take a look....
