P.S. Another + for GLN. It is not a cross through resort. Couples is next door and theres another one beyond Couples and if you walk the beach you cross through Couples' Au Natural side, if that is something that would bother you. It didn't bother us, but I heard comments that the Couple's attendees wished they had more seclusion. GLN is older, but they have the hospitality down pat. Nobody bothered you, you could do what you chose to do and were not corraled into doing anything. The secluded hammocks were great. Several hot tubs interspersed. The service was impeccable. The lamb chops awesome. Red Stripe abounds. We went shopping. You could golf, go on other excursions, but we were on our honeymoon after all......

I am the one that posted this question yesterday morning.... we had decided on GLN and I just called our travel agent back to book, she called Northwest World whatever back and now the quote went up about $1800, it went from 2500 pp to 3200 pp. She said they misquoted her this morning. I need a travel agent and a clue as to what the expected price pp is for nine days. Sadness fills my heart!

Go Classy is very reputable. There is a big website with Jamaica "au natural" goers and almost all of them use them and these people have been to Jamaica 20+ times....They should do right by you! Good luck

The scheduled event that most appalled me at Sandals was the "Beer chugging contest". Unbelievably tacky.

I believe Sandals DOES accept rug-rats (uh...I mean children), if that's a concern. First trip stayed at Couples, Ocho Rios - next three years at Grand Lido, Negril (married schmuck ex-husband during one of the trips).

Grand Lido accommodations, service, food and other perks are truly amazing - if you dare, stay at clothing-optional buildings, you meet the best folks there!!!!

No Mel, Sandals does NOT accept children, they do at some of their Beaches Resorts (Negril, Sandy Bay, Turks and Caicos and Boscobel).
Beaches Royal Plantation is Adults.
Beaches Grand Sport is 16+.

Umm, I guess we went to a different Sandals than all the nay-sayers. We NEVER saw a toga party, there were no beer chugging contests, no loud parties on the beach. Very low key, good food, great bars, excellent water sports (both equipment and staff), and very nice rooms, large, well decorated, very nice bathrooms. This was Sandals Negril. The beach is the best compared to the other Sandals in Jamaica (we visited the others while we were there). I am really surprised to hear these comments about the frat-party atmoshpere-sure not at Negril. Maybe at one of the others but not there.

We also visited Grand Lido and it looks very nice, but since we did not stay there can not comment on that. We also walked through Hedonism II and we thought it was pretty tacky. Not so much the naked fat people but the entire grounds, buildings, all of it just looked pretty low class. One thing for sure about Hedonism, there were plenty of naked people laying around, but man oh man, unless you like lots of skin (as in fat) and tattoos all over stay away.

Might I suggest the "Cliffs" side of Negril over the "Beach" side of Negril, and not staying in an all-inclusive resort? There are many good, interesting and funky places to eat in the cliffs neighborhood of Negril that you would miss out on if you stayed at Sandals/ Swept Away, etc. Try Rock House or Tensing Pen for something different. You can easily get to the beach when you need to and the cliffs are scenic and interesting in themselves.

I guess I didn't stay at the same Sandals Negril either. As the other agent just stated, Sandals is for couples only. No singles, no children. I stayed there in Feb of this year, in a Grande Luxe Beachfront Concierge room and it was great. It was not the most upscale A/I that I have ever done, but we had a blast. No toga parties, (try Hedonism for that), no beer chugging or crab races.

I have also stayed at Grand Lido Negril in an Ocean Front Jr. Suite. I really enjoyed it, but they do allow singles, 16 +.

I have had wonderful success with Couples Negril and Riu Tropical Bay in Negril. Riu opened last fall and I have not had one complaint, as I have sent at least 5 couples there. I disagree with the non all inclusive in Negril. Negril is very small without many choices for restauarants, expecially if you are staying for 9 nights.

Just my .02.

I hope you get want YOU want, it is your vacation afterall!

Thanks everyone for your advice. Along with this forum, and my other research we were able to determine that the Sandals crowd, though probably a lovely beach and facility, might not be for us. So we ultimately booked with the Grand Lido Negril and hope for a pleasant peaceful stay. This is not one of those exploration vacations but rather a relax and do very little, so an AI was the way to go for us this time, less hassle, I don't even want to have to think about where to eat, ha. We have a beachfront suite booked and are looking forward to our first vacation together! Good weather or bad, we will have a lovely time, I am sure. I will respond and let you know what we thought, but it's not until New Year's Eve. I hope others like Lisa and John will respond about what they decided and how it went. Thanks again all for your reviews! It was very helpful. Safe journey to all of you!

Anon,
I am glad that you made the decision based on what you and your husband want. One thing to keep in mind with GL Negril though, the beachfront room we had was on the nude beach - yes, nude, not just topless. If that is an issue for you, be sure to make sure that you are not placed there. Have fun!
