Shopping in St Thomas

I've heard about shopping for jewelry in St Thomas, but is there anything else to buy? Is the jewelry really less expensive than in the states?

There is an open air tent market along the waterfront. In adddition to a multitude of tee/sweatshirts, there is inexpensive but nice jewelry, beachcovers, and lots of souvineer things. Gallery St. Thomas is up the street from there next to either Tanzanite or Diamonds International. It is a nice respite from the crowds and fun to browse. Across the street from the tent Markets is Little Swizerland for crystal, china, fine figurines and such. There are numerous shops along the main street where you can buy liquor at considerable savings, also a great linen shop. Jewelry can be less expensive if you know quality and price. Best thing to do is to first browse at home to be knowledgeable. When looking at jewelry, ask the salesperson if that is the best price they can give. Usually they will give an additional discount. If you wish to price compare with another shop, (there are many), have the sales person write the price on their business card. They will honor it if you return

Hi There,

If you are interested in jewelry, price the item you are interested in at home and then you can compare prices on STT. We've been very pleased with the deals we have gotten over the years.

In addition to jewelry and the normal souvenirs, you can get great prices on liquor if interested. There are also several great places to pick up both VI artwork and that from around the caribbean. Mango Tango has a selection from all of the islands. The Kilnworks offers STT pottery.....in Tillett Gardens, there is a candlemaker who produces wonderful, scented candles. Local Color offers unique, island prints in clothing.

Lots of things to choose from depending upon your interests.

dianebridle,

Is this shopping area you talk about in Charlotte Amalie? We like souveniors and such and are not interested in serious shopping The open air tents might be what we are looking for. We will be staying on St John but thought we might try a little "shopping" in STT.

Is pearl jewelry available in STT? If so I'd love to get some of the unusual colors and shapes.
