Shelling in T&C

I read somewhere it is illegal to take any shells from the beaches in T&C... is this true??? If so, why do some excursions take you to a beach to look for sand dollars/shells etc.? I love to take back some shells, but don't want to get busted.

Anyone taken shells home? Or any other info on this would be great. Thanks.

I bring shells and sand dollars home all the time. It's illegal to bring back something alive (ex. conch still inside, or a live sand dollar-make sure it's white) Definately illegal to bring back coral, even if it's dead.

The water around T & C are a protected national park. Just think that if everyone who went there took shells etc. home, the beaches and waters would be cleaned out. Please enjoy the sights and cherish the memories, but I beg of you not to take shells, coral etc. home! (besides it's the law)

Much Thanks,

Charles

I understand it being protected and will be on my best behavior not to take shells, etc. However, if I find one sand dollar I MUST take it back - I've been looking for years to find a sand dollar to add to my collection. But I promise to just take one (dead of course) :)

Take a picture instead!!!! I am really offened at the fact that individuals can be so be incredibly selfish. It's that kind of attutude that causes damage that can not always be repaired.

vegas, would it help if you knew that the soft white sand you will be going to provo to enjoy is made of those discarded shells. and of more importance is that sea creatures regularly adopt the shell of another for their home. please don't take the shells.
and completely off subject i have learned recently that one should not pick starfish out of the water for viewing. apparently even a few seconds in the air can result in their death.

Sorry... I didn't mean to offend anyone. I just wanted to take back one. I do understand the importance of keeping them there and not taking any.

(can't speak for my hubby though) He sees different.
