Seven Seas on T&C, what to do and what to see?
Hi everyone,
First of all, thank you so much for helping us pick the resort. We figured if we are going to go to T&C (this is really a second honeymoon), we'd do it right. So we booked an ocean-front suite at Seven Stars. Got a really good rate through CostCo travel. I couldn't beat it anywhere else on the web. Even with that, now that we've invested the amount to buy a small car into our vacation, I want to tap into your collective knowledge to ensure we make the most of our trip!! On to my litany of questions....numbered for the answerer's ease.
1. So we've decided to rent a car for likely half the week we are there. Is Grace Bay Car Rentals the way to go?
2. Will half the week of a car rental us to see the best beaches outside Grace Bay (looks like there are really only 3-4 notable others according to the guidebook I got)? Any beach recos? Any out of the way, more private, beaches you know of?
3. Anyone who has stayed at Seven Stars have a room/building recommendation? Any insider tips for the resort?
4. Da Conch Shack and Coco Bistro are on the restaurant list. What else are can't miss restaurants?
5. We have a kitchen in the room, so plan on stocking up on lunch stuff and booze (to take our own down to the beach). Which is the least expensive (I realize this term is subjective on an island!)/most convenient to Grace Bay supermarket? Do you recommend we buy liquor/wine at the grocery, or make another stop? How's the wine selection on the island (we like California Cabs and Chards)?
6. I'd like to do a half or full day excursion. I've read Seven Stars offers one (snorkeling/beach lunch, etc). Anyone done theirs or have a reco on another vendors snorkel or 'deserted island' trip they've enjoyed?

Grace Bay was cheaper than anyone else on the island.
You should definitely bring chairs, blankets, and a cooler/snacks and come visit Sapodilla Bay. Park on the side of the road (Chalk Sound road) and walk down to the beach. It's hard to find but if you explore a little, you shouldn't have a problem.
We just went to Magnolia's tonight and thought it was better than Coco Bistro! Fabulous!
IGA is great and has a good wine selection, however we stopped by the Wine Cellar to stock up on more bottles. Remember that you can't buy alcohol at the store on Sundays We were so happy we got to the island on a Saturday! LOL
Captain Bill's Outback Adventure over off of Sapodilla Bay was a hoot. About a 30 minute snorkeling adventure (good fish and shells), a pirate's cove experience, and then a lunch and relaxing at a deserted beach. Worth the money.

A few other restaurants to add to your list...
Bay Bistro and Mango Reef, although both are almost as pricey as Coco Bistro.
If you like Mexican food and excellent fresh fruit daquiris/margaritas, don't miss SOMEWHERE cafe, next to The Windsong Resort. Yummy!
Da Conch Shack has a nice setting, but the food is nothing special.
We've heard great things about Las Brisas on Chalk Sound, but haven't gotten there yet. You can take a daytime tour of the sound on their pontoon boat!

Thanks, KristiDavis and WWK. Definitely will add Sapodilla Bay to the list. Also appreciate the restaurant recos and will have to check out Somewhere Cafe as well as the other two. Sounds like the food there is excellent!

I agree about da Conch Shack. Setting is cute, food is nothing special. I heard great things about Sailing Paradise about 1/2 mile down the road from da Conch Shack. It looked CUTER than the Shack but I wanted to go to the Shack since I heard so much about it. I kind of wish I went to Sailing Paradise.

We just returned from our 5th trip here and here are some good choices:
Check out "HORSE EYE JACK'S" right next door to Da Conch Shack. The fish & chips were excellent along with some good rum drinks. Beautiful view and actually we thought the food was better than Da Conch Shack.
Right next door to Seven Stars(to the east) is Ocean Club West with the SEASIDE CAFE. We ate lunch there quite often. The chicken caesar, hamburger, and club sandwich are good and resonably priced and the deck is next to the beach for a good water view. Love the mango margarita's (on the rocks-not blended.)
Next to OCW is Grace Bay Club with Cafe Rouge. More expensive than Seaside Cafe but good food in a pretty setting.
Further up the beach (going East) is Royal West Indies (with the dark red umbrellas) It's an easy walk and has a good casual restaurant.
COCO BISTRO is our favorite but also the most expensive meal of our trip.
BAY BISTRO is also excellent but pricy. It's epecially nice if you can get a table in the garden on the beach with the tiki torches.
BACI in Turtle Cove is really a great choice. Tables with a view over the boats and a variety of food and prices. Excellent pasta and possibly the best pizza on the island. We had pricy dinners one night and returned for pizza a few nights later. One of our favorite places.
SHARK BITE is next door to Baci. It's a bar with casual food. We haven't been there but it gets good reviews.
TIKI HUT also in Turtle Cove is another good choice for casual food with a view.
Regent Village---a short walk to the west from Seven Stars has some good choices:
LE BOUCHON----we loved it.
VIX---excellent, but kind of pricy.
LUPO---small, reasonably priced Italian food(look for the white picket fence.)
Also a Thai and Indian places there.
Across the street from Seven Stars and Regent Village:
UPSTAIRS---good burgers and pizza
DANNY BOUYS---casual food with loud kareoke nights, if that's your thing.
LAS BRISAS on Chalk Sound---great tropical drinks and lunch but only go if it's sunny, not on a cloudy day. The views are spectacular.
As far as MAGNOLIA goes, the setting for sunset is special but we didn't have good luck with food or service so now we only go for drinks----just one couples opinion.

I wouldn't ever go to Provo without having dinner at the following, in order:
Caicos Cafe (very close to Seven Stars - walk)
Coco Bistro (Walkable)
Le Bouchon (close to Seven Stars - walk)
Bay Bistro (15 minute walk on the beach - contact them ahead of time and splurge $100 for a private beachfront table)
Magnolia (Drive - in Turtle Cove - Get an early reservation along the rail on the West Side - best sunset views in Provo)
Lupo - Excellent, reasonably priced Italian. Very close to Seven Stars - walk
You absolutely must spend one of your car days over at Taylor Bay and Sapodilla Bay. Have lunch at Las brisas (closed Tuesdays). Reserve a table outside along the railing. Beautiful views over stunning Chalk Sound.
The Deck at Seven Stars is a decent enough option for lunch. The Vix is also a good lunch option that is close to you, as is Thai Orchid and Garam Marsala.

Also, yes Grace Bay Car Rentals is the way to go. They are very close the Seven Stars. There is a liquor store in the Regent Village which is just west of the Seven Stars. The selection of wine and liquor at the IGA Gourmet right by the Seven Stars is lacking/very expensive. You can get your cab driver (I recommend [email protected]) to bring you by the wine cellar on the highway on the way to your resort. They will do that for a small fee. Some bottles were just a tad more expensive than the states, some were double the price. Just depends.

We had a private table for 8 on the beach at Bay Bistro in mid-January. There is a fee for it and you have to reserve ahead, but it was worth it. I think the food at Bay Bistro is just as good as Coco Bistro.

Hope this response is not too late. I have no firsthand knowledge, but we are planning a trip next month and also wondered about the availability of good wine. The Wine Cellar seems to have a pretty good selection and they post what they carry as well as prices on their website.
