seven mile beach,Cayman

Going to Caymans in Nov. as a stop on our cruise. I heard seven mile beach is very over crowded is that true? Anything anyone can suggest as an activity for there?

"I heard seven mile beach is very over crowded is that true?"

If you go to a beach club with every other cruise visitor in port that day is can sure seem crowded. 7MB is 5.5 miles long, so while it may be crowded where the tour buses and taxis drop people off, it is not crowed everywhere.

Sting Ray City is THE activity for first timers. Nothing else like it in the Caribbean. And yes, going with a cruise sponsored excursion, it can be crowded there as well. Book with an independent op so you're not on a cattlemaran boat.

You are visiting in November which is a dead time of the island, so unless there are 3-4 ships in port with you it shouldn't be too crowded wherever you end up.

If you do not need amenities (bar, restaurant, chairs, etc...) take a cab or the bus to a stretch of 7MB like Cemetery Beach or West Bay Public Beach and Dock (Not Public/Sea grape Beach by Calico Jacks). Same great beach, just no getting splashed with your lounge chair neighbor's sunblock and ducking a wayward football. Al Fresco's restaurant is up near West Bay Public Beach and Dock and they have a few loungers for patrons if you need something to eat/drink.

I agree with the above comments. Cruise ship people are usually dropped off at the Royal Palms, Tiki Beach and Public Beach/ Sea Grape. Royal Palms has the best facilities. These areas can get crowded. Rum Point also can get crowded. The rest of Seven Mile Beach is usually uncrowded except for the area around the Ritz-Carlton ( on season). You are free to walk on all of Seven Mile Beach up to the high watermark. You can not use the chairs or the pools at the condos or hotels. Off season you may be able to purchase a day pass at the Mariott, Beach Suites or the Westin.

Try taking a cab up near the Holiday Inn (may be something different now) on the northern end of 7MB. They have a bar..bathrooms...chairs...and it was very quiet and relaxing.

"Try taking a cab up near the Holiday Inn (may be something different now)".

It's the Courtyard by Marriott. The bar, bathrooms and chairs belongs to guests of the hotel, but cruise ship passengers can pay a fee to use. They try to segregate the cruisers from the hotel guests as much as possible.

Actually the hotel in question was most recently the Marriott Courtyard, but that closed and is now awaiting redevelopment by a benefactor of Cayman. Tiki Beach and Public/Sea Grape Beach basically flank the property.
