September 2007 Honeymoon

Hi All

Im from Australia and looking at going to the Caribbean for a Honeymoon but have found its the season for hurricanes etc. Is the start of September just coming into that season or am I right in the middle of it? Anyone been in September and have had no problem with the weather. I know it hard to predict but the weather has been weired latley.
Thank You for your help

Congrats Rose!

Yes September is smack in the middle of hurricane season. Like you said it is very hard to predict. Unlike last year, this season thankfully has been a very slow one but one never knows. If you heart is set on the Caribbean you might want to consider Aruba, as it is out of the hurricane belt and almost guaranteed to have great weather. The beaches are white sand, turquoise water and lots of great places to eat.

I hope that this helps.

Cheers,

SD

Yup, September is prime time for Hurricanes, but the Caribbean is a big place, and the chances of your own vacation being interrupted by a Hurricane are slim (but take out travel insurance!).

On the other hand, September is nice and quiet (if you like that) as hotel occupancies are low (mostly American guests to most Caribbean islands, and it is "end of summer"/"back to school" time). This also means low, low rates, and the weather is going to be hot and sunny the whole time, so great ofr a beach vacation.

Lots of Aussie tour operators are becoming Caribbean experts with the build up to cricket world cup, and they will have rates running right through 2007, so if you stick with September you might be able to manage something very luxurious for a very reasonable price.

I agree that whereever you end up going get insurance that will cover your trip in case of bad weather.

Also I would check with a local travel agent on ideas on where to go from your area that might have better flight options, a local agent would have that info.

YOu might check with some properties that all offer options so that if a storm is heading in one direction they have properties available that will not be affected.

Here is a website you might emjoy that has properties on several islands all upscale.

Have a great trip.

Trinidad, and to a lesser extent Tobago are also well clear of the hurricane belt. I've lived in Trinidad all my life (25+ years) and neither island has ever gotten a real hit from a tropical storm or hurricane.

For honeymooning, Tobago would probably be the more enjoyable island as it's more tourist-centric.
