Sell Offs In April?? Travel agent says no way!

Hi fellow travellers. We have been dealing over the years with a great TA always taking advantage of early booking bonuses ect. This year we were thinking of doing the last minute thing in April. We are open to any place warm, Cuba, DR , Mexico or other Caribbean Islands. She seems to really be discouraging this idea saying that April is not a good sell of month and resorts are already sold out for some of the end dates of April because the book prices are lower. I realize that they work on commission ect. but we send alot of business her way and she has always given good solid advise. I do not want to disappoint our family by missing out but at the same time others have said that they get tremendous deals at last minute. Thought it might be neat to wait and see what we get and where we would be going. Thanks alot, Karen

I gather from the fact that you mentioned Cuba that you are Canadian. The Canadian agents get different 'deals' than the US agents. If you can leave from the US then contact a US agent and see if they have any deals.

You can purchase insurance that would cover 'trip price reduction' in the event you book now and price goes down later. I can assist you. Feel free to write me. I am A TA in the US

The first half of April is peak time and therefore there are unlikley to be bargains. In fact we tried booking several hotels only to find them fully booked. After Easter, prices should drop considerably.

The chances are dim that you would find a super deal at the last minute especially with the airlines overbooking at a peak travel time. However that doesn't mean that you won't. The liklihood of a TA having something come across her/his desk is unlikely but if you are vigilent you might come across something and then check with him/her to see if they can match it or come up with alternatives.

Being a Cdn agent --you can absolutely find last minute deals in April --more towards mid to the end of April the better! The more flexible you are in your travel plans the better....you will be able to find something a few weeks before departure!!

Happy trails!

Hello,
We were probably very lucky last year, but 1 week prior to easter we found a delta deal of 300.00 to st thomas from chicago. We also were able to get a last minute villa rental in st john with pool for 1700.00 per week for our family of 6.
Susan

Thanks for the replies. I have always been hesitant to book last minute for fear of disappointment. We are very flexible as to were we can go and price range is broad. But I not sure I could face the rest of the family if we could not get a deal. If April is not a good sell off month what would be the time to go. Karen

You definetly could get good selloffs in April. I've done it twice in the last two years in April to Cuba and almost to Mexico, and once during March. Hotels were all 4-5 star, all inclusive, and $1,000 - $1,200. Try these websites below around end of March and April. The key to last minute is being prepared to pick up and leave within 6 days. For some people it is tricky to get the time off work in short notice, but what I do is choose a week, tell my boss that it will be around these days, find a special, book and then submit my vacation form to my boss. You have to keep checking the websites often and be prepared to book ASAP. IE as soon as they are published on the site (very important, otherwise you'll find many of them sold out)
http://www.travelsensations.com/
http://www.paylessairfares.com/
http://www.signaturevacations.com/
http://www.sunholidays.ca/
http://www.exit.ca/
http://www.bellairtravel.com/
http://www.travelbestbuys.com/
