Seeking Warm Waters...

Hi, everyone!

I have a bit of a strange question, but am hoping you can help me. I've never been to the Caribbean, but have traveled to other sea-side locations -- Maui, Oahu, Kauaii, Spain, Florida.

Of all of the above places, I found the warmest ocean water in Florida -- almost like warm bath water -- I should mention, it was in July. On some trips, I didn't even like to go into the ocean because the water was too cool (I'm a bit of a baby about this).

I'm wondering if you've found a place where the ocean water is generally warmer, or if it just has to do with the time of year you travel? Or is the water generally warm in the Caribbean than Hawaii, etc.?

This may sound like a petty question, but I really enjoy water activities, but just don't enjoy myself when I'm cold...

Thanks so much,
De Anna

Can't say I have ever been in Pacific waters but I do hear they are colder. Anywhere in the Caribbean you will find the water to be warm - probably warmer than Florida given the proximity to the equator.

Have cruised the Caribbean many times during the end of December. WE have been to many different islands and the water temp. is always around 82-85 degrees.

Deanna I do understand your predicament. In fact the reason that I have brought up this string is because I did a search under warm waters. I am like you and have been to Thailand a couple of times where the water is absolutely beautiful and warm. Last year we went to Antigua and I expected the water to be the same. I was really disappointed - it was cold! We were on the atlantic side and maybe that was why but it has put me off the caribbean a bit. Anyone got any advice or suggestions. Was it because we were on the atlantic side? It was the end of May by the way.
It's a good question. De Anna, we were in Cozumel in February one year & nearly froze our behinds off in the water. One Christmas in the Bahamas the water was cool, another Chrismas downright nippy. In May Bahamas water was much warmer. I think the time of year has a lot to do with water temp until you get well down into the region. Even then, I bet it varies a lot from year to year with the weather pattern. The water in Barbados & St. Vincent was quite cool in the spring, even tho the days were in the high 80s, low 90's.

I was in Antigua in December and the water was nice and warm. Not the Atlantic!

Try Culebra, San Juan warm prestine and warm waters Flamenco Beach. Great snorkeling, scuba diving or just relax in white sand and turquoise waters. (not much shade) Enjoy! I will be next Friday :)

We were in St. Lucia in late November and I (who isn’t such a baby) felt the water was slightly cool – definitely not bath water warm. And we stayed on the Caribbean side. I think the time of year may make a difference. St. Lucia is very close the equator.
