Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana-Dominican Republic

HI-

My husband and are I looking for a winter getaway. We found the Secrets resort but there seems to be other Adult only all inclusives. Is one better than the other?

During the day, we just like to hang out at the beach/pool and read and relax. At night, just a little dinner and some entertainment. We are not up too late and nothing to crazy. Having a nice beach/pool area is important!

Also, is it painful to get from the airport in Santo Domingo to Punta Cana? We know there is an airport in Punta Cana but the flights are better into Santo Domingo.

Any helpful hints/tips are welcome! Thanks!

I would fly into Punta Cana anyway. Driving is not the best in the DR.
We have stayed at Excellence Punta Cana which is also a wonderful adults only resort. The Secrets resorts are also wonderful.

HI-

Me again...I am hijacking my own post.

On trip advisor, there seems to be alot of specific negative reviews about people getting sick/food poisoning at Secrets.

Alot of people mention bringing imodium, pepto bismol, eating yogurt before you go (for the good bacteria) etc.

Is that only at this specific resort that it is a problem? or is that the way it is throught Punta Cana?

I reviewed other all inclusive hotels on trip advisor and the comments about people getting sick from the food seems to be much more common at Secrets.

We have alredy booked our stay at Secrets so I don't want anyone to think I am bad-mouthing the hotel. I just want to know if its more prevalant at some places than others.

All comments are welcome! Thanks for your help!

A lot of times the stomach distress is not due to the food. It is often due to over eating and drinking. Just make sure you do NOT drink tap water. Drink bottled water in your room and use it for brushing your teeth. Ice and drinks and water served in restaurants and bars at the resort are OK as most resorts have a filtration system. It never hurts to bring some sort of medication for your tummy!

Thanks schmerl!

Based on the trip advisor reviews, this seems to be a bigger problem than just a little over indulgence!!

Any time there is a buffet involved just make sure the hot food is hot and the cold food is cold. Be careful of fruits and raw vegetables too.

I'd be curious, Lmaev, to hear about your experiences after you're back. The reports of food/water problems have always kept me from going to the DR, even to the more upscale resorts.

We too are thinking of going to secrets royal in punta cana but I read the comments about this resort and now I am leary of staying here. Two common complaints were the food at this resort as well as that no one hardly spoke english so it was hard to get staff to understand you. Can anyone comment on this?

Lmaev - how was your trip at the secrets resort??

Hi-

We just got back on Sat 2/11. I have to say after reading all the reviews on trip advisor I was ready to find a new resort.
However, we had a perfect lovely vacation.

The resort itself is really nice!! The rooms/grounds are lovely and well taken care of. The service is really good-there is always someone there to take your order/asking if you need anything. And if you gave the person who helped you a few dollars-they remembered you!!!

The food wasn't great, but we also did not get sick either. I stuck to white foods (chicken, pasta, rice, bananas) and bottled water b/c I did not want to get sick and ruin my vacation. My husband ate/drank whatever he wanted and he was fine. We did have ice in our soft drinks but it did not seem to be a problem.

Most people spoke english-you could get what you wanted. And you pick up spanish words easily when you want something.

Secrets is really a nice place!! I think after reading the reviews on trip advisor you just focus so much on the negative, but we were pleasantly surprised!! I would recommend it and I would go back there for a vacation.
