Second Cayman Trip in April: Looking for Cheaper Places to Eat
Hi Everyone:
My hubby and I are going to Grand Cayman for our second trip in April. This time we will have no car. We're staying in the Nautilus cottages about five miles from the airport on Seven Mile Beach (I guess it would be the west end of the beach). We ate at several high end restaurants last time we were there (got free lodging so splurged on meals) our favorite being the Warf, but this time, we're on a budget. Can anyone provide me with suggestions for a nice place which would serve local foods such as fresh fish that's not quite as pricey? Maybe 10-15 US for a meal or less if possible. Or maybe even suggestions for places to eat lunch. We're staying in a sudio apartment with cooking facilities, however we would like to eat dinner out each night and possibly a lunch or two. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thanks a million.

Hi Tia,
Unfortunately, you have picked a spot on GC that doesn't have a lot of restaurants within walking distance, so not having a car is going to severely limit your choices. The two restaurants that come to mind in that area are Ristorante Pappagallo & The Calypso Grill. Both of these places are pretty pricey. Since I am unfamiliar with the place you are staying, I'm not even sure these suggestions are within walking distance.
There might be other places in the northern section, but someone else might have to chime in as I only know of the two I mentioned, and wouldn't consider either of them cheap.
Keep in mind, that most people who stay in the northern stretches have a car for the week. The north end of 7MB is considred somewhat remote, and in my opinion, if you want to eat out every night, a car is a must for this area. The folks that can get away without a car are usually staying in the middle of 7MB area, and have several choices within walking distance.
You may want to try posting this question on the Cayman Islands message board on www.caribbean-on-line.com. That board has good traffic, and a lot of people who know the island well. Good luck!!

I'd suggest you try Miss Corritta's Silver Sands - it's just past the 4 way. Good local food and burgers. We'd do local food - it was about 7-10 US a meal and very tasty. Also you might try Liberty's =just down from the town hall. I've not been there in several years but they have good food at decent prices. Also try the grocery store - there's a Fosters in West Bay and they have a good deli dept with carry out food that's good and reasonable in cost.

Tia,
Cayman is really expensive, but I can suggest a few reasonable placed. Lone Star cafe is great tex-mex,and they have Margarita night, Rib night, Lobster night, etc. Its right on West Bay rd across from LaCovia Condos. Say hi to Tony from Cindy. Then there's the chinese restaurant next to Kentuck Fried in the Fosters shopping center- great Chinese food and somewhat reasonable. Ragazzi next to the Hyatt is great, say hello to Andy the owner from Cindy $ Peter. They have great pizza, but everything else is pricey. If you have any other questions, let me know...This Feb. was our 30th time there!

There's a restaurant called EATS. It's directly across from the Westin. There's a statue of Elvis in front. The food is fantastic and cheap, in Cayman standards. We had a bill of $28 US on a couple occasions.(with a beer and Pepsi) Burgers, chicken, pizza, fajitas, beer, etc. Next door is LEGENDS-sports bar. You can also check out Chicken Chicken in the West Shore Plaza
