secluded beach & private plunge pool
I would like to plan a trip with my husband to the region (first time)and am hoping to find accommodations that meet the following dream criteria:
private bungalow with private plunge pool on secluded, quiet beach with clear water and powdery sand. No high rises, no casinos, no golf, etc....We would like to find a a place that is very low-key and informal; without alot of attitude or pretense. I would appreciate suggestions.
|
There are many private bungalows in the Caribbean. St. Bart's, the British Virgin Islands, and Anguilla would mostly fit your criteria. Have done much research on private villas.
|
I think we would prefer the convenience and flexibility of staying at a hotel that meets our criteria, but thank you for your suggestion.
|
how about st.lucia ? the hilton resort and spa is very beautiful, quiet and secluded. you get your own villa with a private plunge pool. the beach sits between 2 beautiful pitons and is also very secluded. only guests of the resort and the hotel nearby uses it. very friendly staff and casual atmosphere. i highly recommend it.

Cap Juluca is a good bet for you. It's on wonderful Anguilla.
|
Alyssa, I agree that Cap Juluca is one of the finest spots in the world. Be prepared to pay for it! Another spot that fits your criteria is the Crane Beach Resort on Barbados. The private residences have plunge pools and right next to a great beach and fine dining. Away from the main areas of Bridgetown and the West coast resorts.
|
Alyssa
Ladera on St Lucia, Le Toiny and Hotel Carl Gustav on St Barts all have private plunge pools and hotel service. There are some places in Mexico you might research.
Otherwise the villa thing on many islands would do.
|
Spice Island Beach Resort on Grenada might fit the requirements, I know they have private plunge pools and that Grenada is a low-key island.
|
I vote for Le Toiney on St. Barths. Just 12 gorgeous villas, each with private pool (bigger than just plunge, they have a floating mat where you can see the ocean and read your book or whatever). The beach in front of the hotel is down a hill but totally secluded and great for morning snorkelling and picnicing, etc. The best beach on the island is Saline which is totally undeveloped and has no infrastructure, it is just a giant aqua bathtub and truly amazing. Visit the webiste, you will love it.
|
Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. I am curious about the resorts in Mexico alluded to in one of the emails and am hoping someone will follow up on that (although I realize that this is the "caribbean forum")

You should check out La Luna on Grenada. We are going for our honeymoon and have heard fabulous things. They have private bungalows and plunge pools. check out www.laluna.com
|
See the South Coast/Jamaica villas Unforgettable, Buccaneer
and Sparkling Waters on treasurebeach.net

On your question about Mexico, check out: On the West Coast, El Careyes & Tamarindo north of Manzanillo or Las Alamandas, south of PV is Majahuitas. We also liked Villa del Sol in Zihuantenjo or Casa Que Canta. On the Mayan Coast south of Cancun is Maroma & Ikal del Mar. Or just a bit more south in Belize is Cayo Espanto.
But remember the West Coast does not have the fine white sand beaches or turquoise water like the Carib side. Most of these have private pools, some not. Some are separate bungalows but all are small resorts & vary in price, though none are cheap. I have been to several & am going to Tamarindo in October. Hope that helps. Look up most resorts listed at differentworld.com. Cayo Espanto at aprivateisland.com. The beach there is mostly non existant bit it is private & quiet with amazing food & service, but it should be at those prices! Good luck.

I think you will find The Golden Lemon on St. Kitts just what your asking for. Small beach, private plunge pools, pool, excellent food and service and very low key.
|
Does the Golden Lemon have a beach and is it white sand ??
|
The Golden Lemon has a BLACK sand beach. It is not a great beach, but you won't care because you won't want to leave your private deck and pool! If you send a note to golden lemon information [[email protected]] you will receive a reply directly from Arthur Leaman, who is the owner. He is wonderful. The resort is very private and clean and the staff anticipates your every need. They bring you breakfast, and you can eat it on your private deck looking at the water. We are very very picky, and we loved this place.

Has anyone been to the Caribbean Reef Club in Puerto Moreles (Cancun)? How is the food, beach, etc.?
|
St. John sounds like what your looking for. You can stay at lovely Caneel Bay resort (very expesnive) but it has 7 beaches on the property. You can base yourself at the Westin, (their beach is man made).

St John has great villas to rent with their own pools, privacy, everything you could imagine.

St. John is an island that you want to rent a jeep and explore. That is why a villa is fantastic. The island has so many beaches, no highrises, no golf courses, just 30+ beaches and hiking trails. Great town to shop in and many restaurants. You can also rent dinghys for the day and explore deserted beaches or go on a day sail to the BVI's

We choose St. John last year for a beach wedding/honeymoon. It was our first time there and highly recommend it. Absolutely beautiful island, clean and safe. Wait till you see the beaches, wow!!!!!

Have been many places from Asia and the Pacific to Europe and the Caribean. La Luna is up there in terms of service, detail, quality, quite etc,. I agree with one of the other posts about La Luna on Grenada. If you go get one of the Bungalows away from the main pool upgrade so you get plunge pool. Beach is very quite at the resort and the food is excellent. This place fits your bill!.

Thanks,

Todd D. Schafer

Agree that LaLuna and Cap Juluca meets the criteria. Would say that Spice Island would not--beach is not that secluded. Many of the beaches in St. Barts are also not secluded. I believe there are suites with plunge pools at the Horned Dorset on W.Coast of Puerto Rico. It is supposed to be wonderful.
