Scuba Trip

Hi,
My husband & I pick a new spot for our scuba vacation every other year (the opposite years we go back to Bonaire). We do not care for nightlife, prefer getting up early and ending the day with a nice meal.

Any suggestions as to where in BVI to stay, whether resort or villa would better suit our needs.

Any help and specifics would be appreciated.

We would be traveling sometime in April-June.

JP

Hi Jennifer,

Sorry I can't comment on BVI, but have you tried Saba or St. Eutatius for great diving? Both islands are also small, tranquil, have some good restaurants, but not much nightlife, and are extremely people friendly.

For BVI dive info check out the Scuba Mom and for detailed trip questions go to the TTOL board.

From what I know of the BVI's your location and dive preferences may be determined by where the dive outfit operates. There is some overlap....

http://www.scubamom.com/bvi/

http://www.traveltalkonline.com/wwwthreads/postlist.pl?Cat=&Board=bvi

Jennifer-
Sorry, I don't have any suggestions on BVI but if you don't mind, I love to know where you stay in Bonaire and if you have any suggestions on travel companies that can help me and my husband plan a SCUBA trip there next year. I'd love to go there but everything I'm finding is so expensive. Also are there any dive shops that rent equipment there? Thanks,
Bethany

My hubby is a diver also, and this is why we go to the Caribbean for the most part.

Suggestions in BVI:

Peter Island Resort - offers accommodations and 3 meals with tank dives also

Biras Creek - has package deals

Little Dix Bay Resort - has packages and just opening a new spa there too; this is the 'sister' to Caneel in St. John.

[check out the websites for all the above]

Hubby LOVES the BVI snorkeling/dives (I can't even swim or float w/the snorkel gear, so I just relax in the shade with a book while he 'plays').

We aren't into partying too much at night either, and the above are pretty much low key places.

Have a great time, wherever you decide.

Jennifer-- I island hopped the BVI a few yrs ago on a bareboat charter. If you don't want to go with a resort package and want to mix it up a bit-- most dive operators will pick you up from your boat/yacht/cat or island docks/port. I used and was very happy with Underwater Safaris (2-tank ~$75-85). That said, you can essentially stay anywhere-- Virgin Gorda, Cooper, and Peter Islds are popular.

Diving in the BVI is great! Most sites are off Peter, Salt, Norman and Cooper Islds. Without a doubt, you MUST do the RMS Rhone wreck dive off Salt Isld. Buying the underwater video is a bit chintzy but I suckered into it-- great memento. Other amazing sites are the Dog Islds off Virgin Gorda-- stunning sea-life and coral growth. If you can, do a night dive to check out the bioluminescence.

Sorry can't help you more with lodging. But definitely do the Rhone and Dogs.
