Santo Domingo Airport to Punta Cana

How long is the drive from Santo Domingo airport to Punta Cana. 3 hours???
Planning a stay at either Boca Chica or Punta Cana.
Has anyone stayed at the Hamaca hotel lately.

It would be a LOT easier if you just flew into Punta Cana airport. The roads in DR are not very good.

thanks but i really need to fly to santo domingo as i have to stop by the city for something, aware of the road conditions not a problem for me. Can someone tell me how long the trip from capital to punta cana is. some people say 3 hours some 5.

Sadly it's not the length of the trip, but your safety, especially at night. As for the Hamaca try this site..The best for info on the D.R.
http://www.debbiesdominicantravel.com. Your best bet would be to fly from S.D. to Puna Cana

My advice is to stay at Punta Cana. We stayed at the Hamaca a number of yrs. ago and even if it has improved I'll bet Boca Chica hasn't. JM2C

safety is not an issue, I being going to DR for the last 30 years never had a problem, compare to the fact that i live nyc and find it more dangerous to walk in harlem than DR. I've only made trips in the northern part of the island. about 13 years ago did drive from santiago to punta cana but don't really remember how long it was from santo domingo to punta cana. plus the roads were really non existant at that point vs. now.

Hope this helps...an employee of a resort in Punta Cana stayed overnight in La Romana... the distance was too far to drive. Please don't be so cavalier, driving according to the Mgr. of the resort we were in told us how dangerous it was, especially in the evening and has had to go out to rescue guests.

Finally got an answer, if anyone is interested is a 4-6 hour drive depending on the traffic and road conditions. Lived in DR for a total of 6 years, learned to drive there so I don't find driving a hassle, you duck cars and people the same way you duck yellow cabs in NYC and little cars in Europe. I don't find it dangerous at all and I've been to all the continents except Australia and could tell you there are far more dangerous places out there. Just use common sense, what you don't do at home don't do on vacation.

Parrot Mom: thanks for your concerns, just to make you feel better I speak fluent spanish and most people think i'm from DR.

Your Welcome... the GM of the resort told me of having to go out to rescue somebody at night...he said not only would you get robbed, but the car would be stripped in no time with you next to it..I can't remember if he said he traveled armed to help the person out. Good Luck..
