Santo domingo airport to Bayahibe- transportation help!

Does anyone know how to get from SDQ to Bayahibe, we get in around 2pm and are happy going the cheaper option. I have heard of a bus Expreso Bavaro going there?

Hi, gbrit. As far as I know, Expreso Bavaro leaves from the Gazcue area of the city, not SDQ (airport). This would be completely out of your way, if you're landing at SDQ. You can check the Expreso Bavaro website to make sure. I also thought of CaribeTours, which has clean, cool, comfortable buses--but I can't find any mention on their site of servicing Bayahibe.

I did find the following link on the "Debbie's Dominican" website:

http://www.dominicanairporttransfers.com/

It looks as though you can complete a form to get rates, etc. They appear to offer private and shared rides, and they definitely claim to run between SDQ and Bayahibe.

Be sure to specify whether you're headed to pueblo Bayahibe (town) or to the beach area (where most of the AIs are located.)

If that site doesn't work out for you, you might consider posting your question on one of the popular websites dedicated to the DR. Not saying you won't get great answers on Fodor's, but the DR simply does not get that much action or attention here. For that reason, I recommend:

dr1.com
debbiesdominicantravel.com

On the DR1 boards, for example, you might even get a recommendation for a taxi guy (it's a good 2-hr. ride), but depending on the size of your party, you could end up saving pesos in the long run.

Good luck planning, and have a great trip !

Caribe tour buses do not service East part of the country (I've heard). The taxi is around 100 USD for up to 5 people, sometimes you can make a deal for as low as 80 USD. Or you can take guagua - local public transportation - to the nearest town where Metro buses stop and try to get on bus either going to Bavaro or Higuay. Non of the buses go to Bayahibe!!!!! they will stop for you at the intersection going to Bayahibe though, just ask. You can also get on the bus going to La Romana, and take guagua from there directly to Bayahibe, about 25 minute drive, the cost used to be 50 pesos, but I think is more now. Many guaguas are going from La Romana to Bayahibe, you shouldn't have problem there.
