Sands / Grace Bay
Scheduled to stay @ the Sands Grace Bay in late August.
I would like to know what is within walking distance and if a rental car is necessary. I would also love to hear suggestions for restaurants, sites etc. Since we'll have a kitchen...what is the quality/quanity of the grocery store and is it close to the Sands |
The sands is centraly located on grace bay you have numerous restaurants within walking distance to name a few. Salt Mills Plaza which is across the street and a short walk you have The Iguana, Bambooza, and the Salt Mill cafe. You can also walk to the Ports of Call plaza which has Barefoot Cafe, Calico Jacks a pizza place and ice cream shop three or four small gift shops.
A short walk on the beach you have Bay Bistro at the Sibonne, At Point Grace you have a very romantic dinning place called Graces Cottage. Parallel 23 at the Palms. Casual places on the beach are at the Ocean Club west- Seaside cafe, and The Orchid Bar and Grill at the Alexandra Resort and Hemmingways of coarse at the Sands is a favorite for all meals. The IGA is a very large supermarket that has just about anything you could get in the states. Enjoy your trip |

Do you have restaurant recommendations out of the large group you mentioned? |
Graces Cottage for a real nice meal and setting. Bay Bistro is my favorite spot for breakfast and dinner, Iguanas has great steak. Salt Mills Cafe has a great breakfast and great price. Hemmingways at the Sands is good for any meal

We stayed at The Sands in June and loved it!! Our favorite breakfast spot was the Saltmills cafe and Fairways at the Provo Golf Course. Prices were very good! We had a wonderful sunset dinner at Hemmingways and Anacoana (pricey, but good!).
We also loved..... Hey Jose's (small casual), Bella Luna and DEFINITELY do the Tiki Hut on Wednesday night as they have their chicken & rib special which is great. Also love their Jerk chicken wings! We at there A LOT!! Have fun... I wish I was going back soon! |
We loved bay bistro also, a quick walk from Sands

After reading through so many posts and net surfing I have come to the following conclusions. I would sincerely like confirmation from those knowledable foodies out there.
My wife and I will be staying at the Sands. She will be 5 months pregnant so we will be taking it easy...so diving, parasailing, hiking, etc. is OUT We will be getting a car (at least for most of the week) to see Sapadilla Bay, Taylor Bay, Malcolm's Beach and Chaulk Sound. Can I rent at the Sands or only at the airport? We want to sail and will most likely sail with Sail Provo and only for a sunset sail. We are open to other suggestions. The consensus on the Restaurants is as follows: Romantic...Annacona. Breakfast...Bay Bistro and Salt Mill Plaza. Lunch...Hemingways. Other top choices are: Grace Cottage, Coyobas, Iguana, and maybe Paralell 23. Since I do not know how far each of these places are fro the Sands we are again open to suggestions. Is there some MUST SEE/MUST go place I missed? Since this is our first child, we may not be travelling for a couple of years. This is our pre-birth hooorah. |
hi brutus, when you do the drive by chalk sound, and go to taylor and sopadilla take a ride out along chalk sound road. when you come to the split in the road go left. go all the way to the end and check out the mansion being built. it should be almost done now. it has it's own moat! boats yes, but no i mean moat - with hydraulic drawbridge! be sure and take LOTS of cold or frozen to start waters for your wife. it will be quite hot in august and there are no services at any of these places. chalk sound road is on right across from a refinery.
to get onto taylor look for the sign to ocean point villas off chalk sound road and turn in to your left. park along the dirt road just before the pavement starts. walk down the small hill on the right and out onto the beach. the water is extremely shallow for like 1/2 mile out but you can get a refreshing swim in the channel to the left side of the bay in front of the villas. off to the far right end of the beach is a good sized house - belongs to dick clark. access to sopadilla is well before taylor. it is a tiny dirt road on your left, maybe a 1/4 mile after you turn onto chalk sound road. not the road into the rental house area. same goes for malcolm road beach re waters and snacks. its very remote, also with no services. you could make a lunch reservation at amanyara, which is the only thing out there, but it'll cost you! one of my favorite restaurants is called aqua bar. it's at the turtle cove marina. there are often some pretty nice yachts in the harbor there to walk around and look at. assume you know to snorkel directly in front of coral gardens hotel. you might enjoy the conch farm on the east end. tour is interesting if you're interested. takes about 30 mins. you will meet sally and jerry their pet conchs. link to a good map of provo is: http://www.aquamarinebeachhouses.com/map.htm you do not need to rent from the airport. sands desk can advise. i have rented from provo fun cycle, which is located in port of call mall; they were fine. i think most rental agencies would come pick you up if you ask them to, so anywhere you find the best price. weekly may be cheaper and even if you don't plan to need it every day you may find that the ac is nice for pregnant wife rather than walking to ... enjoy the hoorah. woot woot!! |
Don't forget the Tiki Hut on Wednesday nights!! You'll love it!

We just returned from Grace Point where we stayed for a week. My favorite restaurant was Anacona,Grace Cottage was very nice also. The outdoor bar area at Anacona was beautiful with comfortable seating and a very cool fire pit. Didn't like the Iguana (felt like I was in a strip mall). Hemingways and Bay Bistro delivered great beachfront dining at reasonable prices. I didn't enjoy the Tiki Hut at all. Service was very slow and food was not good. My brother had lunch at Parallel 23 and reported that it was the only restaurant environment that compated to either Grace's Cottage or Anacona. Coyobas was closed for the summer. Have fun, the beaches are gorgeous, the water is warm and inviting and the people are friendly and hospitable.

Recommend Magnolia Wine Bar and Restaurant at Mirimar in Turtle Cove. Great views, Also Aqua in Turtle Cove. For Italian Baci in Turtle Cove. Bay Bistro at Sibonne is excellent. Anacona at Grace Bay Club has live music in Wed, Fri and Sat If open Coco Bistro is very good. Coyaba at Coral Gardens has closed and as of Oct opening at Caribbean Paradise Inn. Caribbean night at Hemmingways is fun. For lunch go to Da Conch Shack--Formerly Bugaloos- in Blue Hills and have cracked conch. Enjoyed Tiki Hut for lunch but Rib and Chicken night can be a zoo--Lots of people.
