Sandcastles Beach Resort

I have two weeks at the resort and will not be renting a car. Would like to have advice on tours in the area especially snorkeling, kayaking and of course, shopping.

E-mail Carolyn Barrett at Barrett Adventures/info@barrettadventures for a sampler of her privately-guided tours custom-made to your interests.

tivertonhouse,

Thank you for such specific information. This may be a bit more expensive due to its very special nature for my budget. I will contact her nevertheless. Are there also more generic tour companies?

Your hotel should offer tours also but I bet hiring a private driver like Carolyn is not much more $$, especially if you can rustle up 2+ people. (hotel tours usually charge per person).

It's a much better experience going at your own pace IMO.

Thanks for the thread to Carolyn Barrett's web site. Very informative with good links to Jaimaca in general. Georgiana

Liz is right when we went with Carolyn recently. Carolyn rates are not very much higher than tours - and would have actaully worked out lower per person less if we were more than 2.
But the experience is unmatched - beacuse you will see and experience stuff that you never would on the tours and learn a lot about the country. Besides on a tour you can't stop by an old church to takes pics - or go to a roadside market , wander through a building simply because it looks interesting.
But it depends on what you are looking for we usually have no hard and fast agenda about what we want to see as much as trying to get a feel for what a place is about.
Have fun - it's a great place.
