Hi, we are Sandals people too. We have been to Sandals Royal Bahamian and Negril also, loved both resorts and plan on returning there again soon. Sandals is the only way to go. All the food and drinks you would ever want and the staff is wonderful and fun.

sorry, I posted the wrong author I am Joe my email is [email protected] Sorry its my second time on this board.

Hi, We stayed at the Sandals Royal Jamaican last year and loved it. We will return their again some time soon I hope.
|
We honeymooned at Dunns (Jan 1999) and vacationed in Negril (jan 2000). Dunns was fabulous! Unfortunately, our experience at Negril was terrible (we met other Sandals people who said the same). Staff at Negril was not nearly as accommodating, property unkept, food selection/quality was poor. We're trying Grand Lido San Souci next week (2/1-2/10) which we have been told by "lido people" to be outstanding. Would like to try the new Beaches Adult only resort (Royal Plantation) sometime in the future. I hear St.Lucia and Antigua Sandals are very nice.
|
We just returned from our third trip to Sandals Negril. We love it and can't wait to go back. I am surprised to hear the comment about unkept property and poor staff. Our experience has been exactly the opposite.
|
Henry, I feel the same way Im shocked at
Vals response. We love it there it is our favorite Sandals resort. We have been to a few and Negril by fars the best! Am off to Sandals St. Lucia on Feb 25, 2001

Kim: I wasn't surprised to hear Sandal's Negril was your favorite. At the returning guests' dinners we always ask about the other Sandal's resorts. Without exception, everyone says that while the other Sandals have some wonderful things, they always return to Negril because it is their favorite. Management told us Sandals was purchasing land in Grenada and two other islands for future expansion.
|
Henry,
Nice to hear the positive comments about your recent trip to Negril. My husband and I are going for 10 days (Feb. 19 - Mar. 1) and it is our first time to a Sandals. Any good tips to know? Thanks:)

A major factor with the problems that I encountered at Sandals Negril was due to the fact that Sandals had just purchased a property 200 yards down the beach (Poinciana) and all of the guests at that resort had privileges at Sandals. We met a couple on the ride to Negril from Mo Bay who were told by their travel agent to stay at the resort down the beach, walk to Sandals for the day, return to Sandals for dinner and save a $1500 because the new property was cheaper. There were nights when we had to select 3 or 4 entees before they had one available, they were frequently out of bananas (which means no Hummingbirds), they ran out of Red Stripe at the beach bar on several occasions, the beach grill didn't have hamburger rolls, we had to endure an art auction as entertainment on two of the 10 nights we were there, if you wanted bottled water you had to BUY it at the gift shop because they ran out, etc, etc. This is not just my interpretation of events, there were many people at the returning guest party who shared our concerns and it was made known to Mr. Powell. Next week we leave for San Souci, but we will return to Sandals in the future because our stay at Dunns was an experience of a lifetime.

Kathy:
You will have a great time at Sandals Negril. I would recommend you try the scuba class and snorkelling. Sailing is also great fun and they will teach you how if you don't already know. We also went horseback riding in the mountains this year which was very enjoyable. If you want a full trip report, please email me.

We are also Sandals people. Last May we stayed at Halcyon and had the time of our lives. This resort was beautiful and just the right size for us. By day 2 all the staff knew what we wanted to drink at breakfast had my tea waiting, just perfect. SSL was also beautiful with lots of good restaurants, for our liking a bit too crowded. We are off to Sandals Antigua in a few months.
|
I sure hope Sandals do expand on more islands just more places to go!!!!

After reading all the great things about Sandal Resorts, I have priced both Negril and Royal Bahamian and they came out pretty close. If you had to pick between the two, which one is your favorite. My husband and I love places with great pools, swim up bars and a to die for beach - which property would be best? Also, my husband can be very finiky about food - I've read the restaurant listings on their brochure - which place was better in your opinion? The price is pretty steep for us so we won't be venturing off the resort to eat. I'd hate to spend the money and get down there and not like the restaurants. Please rate your experences overall for food, beach and fun!
|
I can understand your frustration now George. Guests at the old Poinciana resort no longer have priviledges at Sandals Negril. They do have priviledges at Beaches Negril.
|
Cat, The Royal Bahamian has much bigger pools, there beach is fairly small but the private island makes up for that. The food in Negril is very good but somewhat spicy I loved it but hubbie is picky an prefers more American, as is is at the Royal Bahamian, so if hubbie is a picky eater like mine he would prefer the Royal Bahamians much better.
Both resorts are beautiful, we did more excursions at the Royal Bahamian and ventured out on our own more. We just wanted to stay at the beach and pool and drink our self silly when we visited Negril. The beach is miles long in Negril and the sunset is the best ! We walked everyday for miles down the beach. If you have any ? just feel free to ask Me? We are off to Sandals St. Lucia Golf & Spa Resort on Feb 25.

I have stayed at Sandals Antigua. The food was decent, the staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and decorated/furnished in typical motel-style (nothing special, but adequate). Overall, it was a pretty good deal for the money.
|
I am going to Sandals Negril in April and I am looking for tips. How secure are the rooms? Are valueables(?) safe if left in the room, i.e. camera's. How trust worthy is the cleaning staff?
|
The cleaning staff is wonderful and no need to worry about how safe things are in your room. I left my jewlery out and our camersa all the time and nothing was ever taken. The cleaning staff make only about $20 a day and there jobs are to precious to loose it over something stupid. I know you are not to tip the staff but we baecame very friendly with ours and left her all the Jamaican money
we had left over and then some. I still call her from Indiana to Jamaica and keep in touch. It is a wonderful place and wii bee back there nx Feb for sure!
|
Sorry,We will be back there nx Feb, grandchild hit the key board.
