Sandals Montego Bay or Royal Caribbean?

Interested in the Sandals resorts in Montego Bay because they are close to the airport. The info. I found says the resorts were built in 1981 & 1986. Has anyone been there recently? I was wondering if there has been any renovations? (especially to the rooms)

Any other recommendations in or near Montego Bay would be appreciated. Interested in great beach & water.

If you want a great beach and water, Negril is the place. The water is crystal clear. The drive was about 1 1/2 hours, maybe a little less and the scenery is pretty along the way. We had to stay 2 extra nights due to Hurricane Emily at the Wyndham, Montego Bay. The water was a mud hole, I didn't even go in. It may have been due to the Hurricane, but it didn't affect Negril that way. We noticed the water in Montego Bay looking pretty murky while driving to Negril. The distance is not really that bad.

This resort has recently been updated and has added a spa. The rooms have been done over this year I believe. We have been there 2x..love it..great PRIVATE large beach, almost 1mile long and very wide.. It's 5min from the airport so you can hear the planes leaving the airport. The planes arrive from the other side so you don't hear them. Usually you just wave good-bye and hold up your rum and coke!!! Good Food, good service and a good crowd. If you want something a bit quieter try Sandals Royal Caribbean, smaller man made beach. But if you go to one you can go to the other also!!!

Ok, first off 2 very different resorts.
We have been to both resorts. Sandals MB is a very up beat resort. Great beach and the staff is super, the food very good and the panio bar is a blast. On the other hand the Royal Carribean seem to be a much older and reserved crowd. Both are very nice resorts but the Royal has been our least favorite of all of the Sandals properties. The Royal beach is very broken up. Which ever one you decide you have the privileges at either of the other resorts.
Sandals Negril get my vote also.....our favorite!
